Three weeks ago, if you would have told me that a pregnant 17 year old unwed girl would become the symbol of "Family Values" for the religous right, I would have told you you are out of your mind.If Obama's daughter would have tried that, we would hear no end of it - with her as a symbol of "the godless liberal agenda".I have to hand it to her. Sarah Palin sold it. Unbeliveable ...[Edited on September 8, 2008 at 10:53 PM. Reason : *~<]Bo]

it's called hypocrisy.hardly an unbelievable phenomenon in the political world
9/8/2008 10:54:26 PM
if Obama's daughter were pregnant, no one would be speaking about it, cause Obama would sue the fuck out of anyone who dared mention her name. Not that the media would pick it up anyway. They won't fucking report on legitimate issues about Obama. What makes u think they would report something like that?

if obamas daughter was pregnant, the republicans would be tearing him to shreds because they are opportunistic a-holes
9/8/2008 10:58:37 PM
^^ great response.^ you are probably right, but there would be no media circus about it on CBS, NBC, ABC... just on FOX.[Edited on September 8, 2008 at 11:00 PM. Reason : ]

Yeah, because all those networks sure left Obama alone when the Wright scandal was going on.
9/8/2008 11:00:39 PM
yep. that was when they were pulling for Clinton. It aint called the "Clinton News Network" for no reason...
9/8/2008 11:01:27 PM
oh, right. of course.
9/8/2008 11:05:13 PM
Ironically, it's a big issue is because... it's not really a big issue. SRSLY.Rev. Wright's Racism, Obama's Islamic affairs, McCain's bucket list, and Palin's prego daughter are all media hype that will escape our train of thought several months from now. Non-issues that magically appear as issues.
9/8/2008 11:13:04 PM
The difference between Rev Wright and Palin's daughter is that no matter who you are, or what your morals, you can't control 17 year olds. Obama made the decision to sit in that church for 20 years.
9/8/2008 11:19:48 PM
I would certainly find it more disturbing if one of Obama's daughters were pregnant. But that would be because they are 10 and 7 years old.
9/8/2008 11:23:37 PM
so, if they were both pregnant, what would be the difference?
9/8/2008 11:25:05 PM
Only in that it would be all the more disturbing.

Something remarkable in all this. I may be dating myself here, but I seem to recall when Dan Quayle hopped on national TV to condemn Murphy Brown - a fictional television character - for choosing to be a single mother. Even though I was an adolescent at the time, I still said, "Uh, isn't it more important to you that she kept the kid?"Then Murphy Brown pwned Dan Quayle on the show. I still to this day believe this contributed to the loss of Bush in '92.Now choosing single motherhood is held up as a sign of the culture of life. Funny thing fifteen-and-change years will do, huh? (Or simply circumstance, as it were.)

^^ But why? 10+7=17So a 10 yo and a 7 yo both pregnant is the same as a 17 yo pregnant! ^ Oh yeah I remember that.[Edited on September 9, 2008 at 12:42 AM. Reason : ^]

Hypocrisy does apply, not with the Palins but with the religous right. It seems that the way the intepret the meaning of teen pregnancies depends on demographics ...It's either everything that's wrong with liberal America, or it's everything that's right in a good conservative family.
9/9/2008 10:22:22 AM
I dont think you would find anyone saying teen pregnancy is "right" in any family. I wont disagree that there is a slight double standard to it though. Some people view certain teen pregnancies as less wrong than others, I am sure.
9/9/2008 10:47:48 AM
More than a slight double standard. If it happens to "those people", it's because of their upbringing (not to mention the liberal culture). If it happens to one of "us", it's in spite of their of their upbringing (and because good families don't stand a chance against the dominant liberal culture).

What is hypocritical is evangelicals praising Palin's daughter as a moral character for not getting abortion; overlooking the fact that she still had sex out of marriage and having a child.
9/10/2008 12:49:55 PM
no, what's amazing is that the christians are forgiving to her.the liberal scum are the only ones slinging shit back and forth about how bad of a person she is.continue throwing this topic around, it will only continue to divide the left, and bring together the right.
9/10/2008 12:55:01 PM
It's not about the Palins, it's about the blind hypocrocy of the religious right. There are thousands of black unwed mothers that never got abortions, or forgiveness. In fact, they became the symbol of everything that's wrong with liberal America - no family values, God out of the school, etc.But now that it's one of their own, the response couldn't be any more different. Now she's become a symbol of how "good families" respond to a difficult situation. Unbeliveable ...Between the pregnancy and the underage drinking (it wasn't that hard to find photos of that), it's safe to say, at the very least, she didn't have adequate supervision. So far, Mr. Obama has been far more gracious than the religious right has ever proven itself to be.

^ Do you want some pencils to go with that cane? It's not an attack on Christianity, it's an attack on hypocracy - in the image Jesus himself.[Edited on September 10, 2008 at 2:19 PM. Reason : *~<]Bo]
