I have one of these that I got from someone that worked there. (He refurbished an RMA'ed unit for me.) Doesn't work well here because the power is crappy (frequent drops below 100V). It was only ever cycled once as far as I know and it lasted about 20-30 minutes with a stereo, 37-inch LCD, and computer attached (total load was probably around 300W).

Due to the crummy power here it cycled on/off repeatedly (load to wall->voltage drop->battery backup->wall load reduced->voltage restored->off battery->increased wall load->voltage drop ...). I replaced it with a UPS with a power conditioner built in, so I don't have use for this anymore. I don't know if the frequent cycling had an effect on the performance of the UPS. It's 1000VA. It appears to work normally. It's just like any other UPS except the battery is hot-swappable.

Located in Wilmington, though I do occasionally go through Raleigh. I used it for about 2 years.

This is an older model without USB interface. It has RS232 interface. Eaton is a major player in enterprise battery backup solutions (thousands of VA). Average consumers probably haven't heard of them because they don't market toward consumers.

Would be willing to trade for used (but working) SATAII hard drives.

I hate to say it, but a UPS without AVR is pretty much worthless . . . . unless the batteries are in good condition, in which case its worth a few bucks so you can swap said batteries into a decent unit.

The battery is more than likely fine. It operates ok if the wall voltage is above 100V continuously and it should work on battery fine if the voltage stays below the switching threshold.

The problem is the power here fluctuates between ~90V and 110V. Most older workstation UPS units and many new ones will have problems under these conditions too. I tried a different off the shelf APC UPS with a similar problem. I returned it and got one of these: http://www.apcc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BX1500LCD

Even this one gets into switching back and forth between battery and wall power occasionally.

The Eaton above does have voltage regulation, but it's operating range is 100-135V IIRC.


I'm not claiming this is worth a substantial sum of money. I didn't post a price. I'm willing to accept a reasonable offer. I don't have any hope of selling just the battery because few people actually own Eaton UPSs.
