hmm, didn't the 02-03 models have a particularly weak transmission? or does that include the entire generation of the car?

Yeah honestly the only people that I've known break transmissions are the people who don't know how to launch one and just drop the clutch on it... yes repeated drivetrain shock will grenade a transmission.

I've yet to read about a case where anything other than a first gear launch hurt the transmission.
No, i don't personally own one but i have 2 friends with sabarus and 1 with a bugeye and yes everything i know about them has come from working on one of those 3 cars or NASIOC or i've recieved info from NASIOC and worked on them.

How much you willing to pay? I might be willing to sell, but not because I don't like the car. I love it. It's treated me very well in the past 4 years.

I have the '04 model. I'm thinking of going with the new '09 model. Better hp/torque. Better handling. More roomy. More Hyundai/Kia looking. New car smell

I've beat the living daylights out of it autocrossing. Surprisingly, nothing has broken.

Maintenance
70K miles (Took a pic with my cell phone the other day)

- Factory serviced according to Subaru's schedule until 45K miles (due to service plan that I bought with the car)
- Since then, I've used AMSOIL Synthetic 5W30 every 4-5K miles
- Replaced tranny fluids with Redline 75W90NS this spring (May 2008)
- Replaced differential fluid with Redline 75W90 (May 2008)
- Replaced spark plugs with NGK Iridium (May 2008)
- Bled and replaced brake fluid with Motul brand fluid (May 2008)

Things to do that I haven't done yet:
- Have new fuel filter in closet, but waiting until 80-90K miles to do that.
- Still have some/most of the stock parts laying around.

Mods (all bolt-on type):
- Helix "bell-mouth" downpipe
- Borla "Hush" exhaust
- Cobb Accessport Version 1 (electronic management w/ maps)
- Eibach lowering springs
- Cusco rear swaybar
- Kartboy endlinks
- Kartboy short shifter + bushings
- Hawk HPS Brake pads (Installed Spring 2007, should last a while with daily driving)
- Goodridge Stainless Steel Brakelines
- STi uppipe - heat wrapped (stock one had a cat in it)
- Homemade intercooler sprayer (sweetness)
- Samco intercooler hoses
- Aftermarket set of 17" Scion tC wheels bored to fit WRX hub w/ Azenis RT615's (90% tread left, only used once for ONE autocross).

Has your usual quirks for a 4 year old sports sedan:
- Clutch works fine for daily driving, but you can't do any high RPM launches. You'll just burn the clutch. It'll need replacing in about a year or two depending on your launching antics.
- Definately needs a new paint job and dent repair. Subaru cheap paint and aluminum body panels. I used to wash it more, but then the dents and chips kept coming, so I gave up. Probably only wash once every two months now.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Haven't been able to find the newer model one yet... So not quiet up for sale. And I don't want the '08. You never want to get first generation models. 2nd generation models are always more refined.

Hyundai/Kia looking = less ricers trying to maddog me and more of a sleeper.

beat the daylights out of it = surprised it still runs this good Subaru won me over as a loyal customer.

'09 model is supposed to out perform all previous generations by leaps and bounds.

^^I'm confused. the '08 was a brand new model. No way they're making huge changes to the '09 model, unless they've got a new engine?

Yeah the '08 is lighter, but like 50lbs. For that kind of ugly who cares, gimme the weight and the old model.

Haven't you read the latest reviews? Bigger turbo, better suspension, better steering rack, more agressive look... 265hp & 244ft/lb torque

Like I said, never bite on the first model. Always wait for second one.

I see nothing visually that makes the '09 look better. Performance-wise the improvement is good stuff. No way I'd consider something that looks like that though. Subaru really disappointed me with this new model

I'm surprised I didn't hear about these revisisions. Between R&T and C&D I'm usually pretty up to date on these things. But I don't surf the internet reading the latest news.

I dig the hatch. I was helping someone drop her car off at Southern States and they happened to have an STi Hatch in the showroom. For some reason I fell in love with it. It's one of the few cars I could see myself buying and being totally happy with for a decade.

Looks much better in person than in pictures.

Heard about it, but never used TurboXS before. It should have come with custom maps the previous owner used and all the appropriate logging software. If the car is running good, you shouldn't have to do anything.

Hopefully he got it professionally tuned. You can find more info on it just by googling or visiting some forums. No easy answer though. Gonna have to research and study it out yourself.

There aren't any tuners in the Triangle area, but if you go down towards Charlotte there are some and I know boxer4racing.com out in boone has a guy that can tune the TurboXS UTEC.

Also, there is a subie meet in Raleigh once a month. There are some owners there that have that TurboXS ecu mod. They might be able to help you out.

---

One trick I learned in my 4 years of ownership: Learn to rev match instead of just downshifting. You'll save your clutch in the long run. Especially with our AWD transmissions.
