why would you want to waste a year of glennon's with this shitty OLine play?there shouldnt be any real expectations this year at all. i dont have any. i just hope we can make it to the crappiest bowl in our league.
8/29/2008 10:03:54 AM
For someone who posted respectable stuff in ST, this is just an awful idea.1. He isn't cutting it in practice, he wasn't here for spring practice, why would he do better in a game? Not worth burning his redshirt.2. He is our prized QB recruit. Why are we in a hurry to play him? It isn't like we are "wasting time" or "going to lose him!" This isn't college basketball. He isn't going anywhere.3. We have no offensive line. They are undersized and any dropback qb is going to get eaten up. Glennon would get beat to shit, and potentially injured. Evans never once had anytime to throw, if he did he couldn't get it there anyway but I'd rather not watch the true freshmen get eaten alive. This is why Wilson was playing.4. Phillip was the exception not the rule. Also you can just see a physical difference between where Rivers was as a freshmen, and Glennon who looks like he could still be a soph in high school.

plus phil came in early, and actually had other weapons. This is just a horrible idea

thanks man. i think you're pretty neat, too.so we're agreed then? glennon should start against william and mary?

Not playing a guy because you're afraid he'll get injured is dumb. In that case, lets just play our second string team for the rest of the season, no reason to "waste" our starters on a lost season The way I see it, Evans is shit, Beck is even worse, and Wilson may not play again this season. Even he does, he's at best a "game manager". Glennon is 6'6" so at least he isn't getting the ball batted down at the line of scrimmage every 3rd pass. We appear to have a decent running game, and that's with our 4th string running back taking half the plays. I say we swing for fences. Put him in against W&M, if he blows then who cares if we burned his redshirt since he sucks anyway. If he looks even halfway competent, stick with him and lets see what happens. I mean, for fucks sakes, we play in ACC.
8/29/2008 10:26:36 AM
Can't we play him against W&M without burning his redshirt?

we owe it to andre brown to put a serviceable QB in for his last year here.He has NFL size and if he has a decent year he could be a late rounder.

I'm not in favor of this. Here's how I see it. This team is pretty bad. The OL needs a lot of work. It seems defense is legit, but our effort is the worst we've seen in a while everywhere else. If QB were the only problem with the team, then I'd be all for it.Glennon needs a year of Clipboard and Weight room. He might be better as a true sophmore than redshirt freshman, but I don't think next year's team is going to be much better without a severe change in attitude and improvements along the OL and Special Teams. He'll be better as a Redshirt Sophomore than a true Sophomore, and so should the team. In the long run, the better move for the program is for Glennon to not touch the field this year.
8/29/2008 10:40:58 AM
to be fair to me, i never thought any of those guys would save us.glennon i think might.^ no dude, you don't understand. it's not about making glennon as good as he can be, it's about making this program as good as it can be. you do that w/ moderate success to recruit off of. the sooner we can get to that state, the better.[Edited on August 29, 2008 at 10:42 AM. Reason : glennon is not the last hope guys.]
8/29/2008 10:41:14 AM
8/29/2008 10:49:25 AM
I think most reasonable people do NOT expect glennon or any other QB we have to the be the program's messiah. At this point, I just want someone back there that can manage to not completely give the game away time and time again. Really, we have talent at RB, we have serviceable talent at D. We play in a weak conference. We are one mediocre QB away from a 6,7 win season and a bowl game.
8/29/2008 10:50:26 AM
^^ right. and we can get BETTER guys for HIS system if we field a team that can throw a touchdown.[Edited on August 29, 2008 at 10:50 AM. Reason : ^]
8/29/2008 10:50:34 AM
not so much pro Glennon as I am anti the shitheads that have had numerous chances and smoked pole.Give him a shot, cant be worse. And to the people that say "well obviously Glennon doesnt know what he is doing in practice if he isnt starting already" - BULLSHIT. Tom Brady couldnt beat out Drew fucking Henson at Michigan. Some players just step it up in games, are great under pressure etc. Is Glennon that way? No idea. But I KNOW Evans and Beck arent.
8/29/2008 10:55:07 AM
Let him get some reps against W&M.if he steps it up, make him the starter.if he's still not quite ready, we can still redshirt him.
8/29/2008 10:58:23 AM
http://www.neurosurgerytoday.org/what/patient_e/concussion.aspGiven how seriously Grade III concussions are now taken, I wouldn't expect to see Wilson back on the field for at least a month.
8/29/2008 11:05:04 AM
I'm down for burning Glennon's redshirt, I don't know if I can stand to watch anymore of Evans and Beck, if Glennon sucks it up at least he got some valuable experience and can come out next year ready to go from the start.
8/29/2008 11:06:02 AM
pulling Glennon's redshirt this year would be the absolute worst thing that TOB could do for us. He's a great QB but he needs to bulk up some AND we need another year to get the O Line in good form so he doesn't get hit like Wilson.
8/29/2008 11:06:12 AM
8/29/2008 11:15:26 AM
I mean, this is all really pointless conjecture. O'Brien has clearly made his decision regarding Glennon playing this season. Short of everyone in front of him suffering season ending injuries (one down, two to go ) , he's not playing. I'm mostly just venting because I'm sick of seeing us field QBs that make me yearn for the days of Jay Davis.[Edited on August 29, 2008 at 11:23 AM. Reason : :]
8/29/2008 11:22:42 AM
8/29/2008 11:29:17 AM
If he plays good ... really good ... who's to say he'll be here his redshirt senior year?Wake got where they are because they have a competent QB who played as a Freshman (albeit redshirt). You plug Evans in the starting role on that team, and they're just as hopeless as we are.
8/29/2008 11:32:44 AM
Wake got to where they are because they didn't panic and try to make something out of nothing.
8/29/2008 11:36:13 AM
Yeah the redshirting thing is just an excuse. The sad fact is that Wake Forest got better because they got better talent than we did.
8/29/2008 11:37:17 AM
TOB has certainly not made an irreversible decision on glennon.when asked if RW's injury had any effect on Glennon's redshirting

8/29/2008 11:45:49 AM
8/29/2008 11:54:25 AM
You do. But when you realize your no.2 QB sucks monkey balls, you move on to plan C.And if anyone says Harrison Beck should be plan C, you should hit yourself on the head with a pick axe.
8/29/2008 12:00:42 PM
There's absolutely nothing to be gained from putting him out there this year. We're rebuilding and with or without him we're not going to be any good. It's been a while since this program could legitimately say "well, we're just a QB away", why try and convince ourselves of that now?And more importantly: 6'6 195? He would die. Hell, it's still a miracle that Evans is even alive, let alone someone who's taller, yet smaller than he is.[Edited on August 29, 2008 at 12:07 PM. Reason : .]
8/29/2008 12:06:28 PM
I mean, are we a QB from competing for an ACC championship or even being atop of the Atlantic? Hell no. Are we a QB away from being on the plus side of .500? I don't think that's an unreasonable goal.
8/29/2008 12:14:25 PM
8/29/2008 12:15:19 PM
Jim Grobe red shirts lots of players and look where they are at. Glennon needs to stay red shirted, so we have him in 5 years when we are good.
8/29/2008 12:18:27 PM
For those who say we have nothing to lose by putting him in, you are completly wrong. If he takes this year to learn and is good next year, what we lose is a year of him playing. Don't assume he is so good that he'll leave for the NFL early. We have no track record of continually getting high quality qb's, so to think by playing him now and that we'll have another qb coming up after is wrong.
8/29/2008 12:18:54 PM
Glennon is 6'6 and weighs fucking 195. I'm 6'2 and weigh 195, and if you seen me you know I"m skinny as shit. Glennon needs to stay off the field and in the locker room. Getting bigger, stronger, smarter, will make him and the team so much better.
8/29/2008 12:36:46 PM
8/29/2008 12:39:36 PM
After seeing game last night, if Wilson is out for a significant time, then we should get Glennon in there. Like it has been said, we have been waiting for years for someone to come in and stabilize the program. I don't see it being a good use of the season to just let Glennon learn on the sideline and just let the season be shot if Wilson can't go. We know that Evans is not the answer. If we are not trying to make moves to get wins and get better, what incentive will the team have to try and play hard and do better?Yeah, its going to be a long ass season, but don't tell the players that we are just going to let the season ride out with a QB we know does not have the tools or the ability. I would like to keep Glennon learning and lifting, but if we have no other credible qb then we have to go with what we got in the cupboard. III
8/29/2008 12:41:16 PM
you fucking tossers, glennon is NOT the #4 qb on the depth chart. he's the #2 qb on the depth chart who is getting passed over in favor of a redshirt, at the moment.
8/29/2008 12:57:06 PM
actually you're wrong
8/29/2008 1:00:06 PM
You are all asuming that the value of being on the field getting your head beaten in outweights the learning that is done on the sideline watching the qbs ahead of you. There are tons of qbs who are put in way to early, and it doesn't end up working out well. A majority of the best qbs in the NFL didn't play their first season, and that is the NFL. The transition into college from High School without a spring practice is even tougher. Stop acting like Glennon is sitting on the side picking his nose and waving at girls in the stands.
