so i just bought a coleman venture kayak sit-in. used of course. came with paddle and back rest. just no skirt. perhaps ill get one at some point.now its kinda cool, the guy had a little trolling motor rigged to it (i bought it without). anyone else have one? is falls lake a good area to kayak? im sure it is, its the closest to my place (about 5-10 mins away)... i like gaston (when its not crowded), but its a little over 1 hour away. the beach is out of question, i could go and kayak in the sound, but id rather stay around here.

^^^At the southeastern part of Falls Lake, where the dam is, there's a big kayak place called Paddle Creek. They do trips down the river that leaves Falls Lake (right where their store is). I mean, you got your yak, so just throw it in there and fuck an organized trip. Unless you want to pick up some Meryl Streep River Wild skills.

There are a couple of canoe and kayak put in's at the Haw River. I've boated out there before and it seems pretty cool.

I've got a Wilderness Systems Pungo w/ dashboard (removable insert on front w/ an extra dry hatch and cupholder. good for packing lunch and sunscreen). My boyfriend has a Perception Prodigy. We love them. My only complaint is i'm a little short so it can be difficult to get comfortable with the foot rests. If you only have a few hours on the weekend and can't get away, Lake Johnson isn't so bad. It can get a little crowded on the weekends, but Sundays have been the best in my experience. It's like $3 to launch for the day (cash or check only). AND if you have a friend that wants to go with you that doesn't have a kayak, they can rent one there. When the level is high enough there are a couple of spots you can venture in to to get away from the crowd.
