Yes, I did have forwarding set up. NCSU actually does send information through there on alumni events, university news, etc. Those are the emails that I was expecting.

I am off of work now, thanks. I worked mostly 8-5 this week (except for one day). I do about 40 hours during the summer, and my dept. gets charged overhead if I do more. So I went in today around 8, worked till around noon, left, came home, worked another hour, then ran some errands. many years ago when i had the opportunity to activate my alumni email address, i heard some stories about some universities, including NC State, selling all their email addresses to marketing companies...fuck that shit

its one thing if you sign up for stuff and forget to uncheck the "May our partners send you special information" or whatever...but without doing anything with the email address, and still getting tons of spam...thats bullshit

no kidding. there's that time period after you graduate that your unity address is still active. right after I graduated from NCSU, the spam started rolling in. I mean, during 4 years at NCSU, I think I got maybe 5 unsolicited messages.

But as soon as I graduated, BAM. 2-5 spam emails a day.

there's no other reason that this would happen other than NCSU selling those addresses.
as that relates to the alumni address, I have NEVER given that out to anyone. Hell, I couldn't even really tell you what the address is off the top of my head.

Just so everyone knows NC State doesn't sell email addresses to anyone. The reason that people get spam when they get an alumni forwarding address and they didn't when they had their student address is simple.

The university filters out the majority of the spam emails that come in when you are a student. For the forwarding address, there is no middle man. So any spam that comes to the address will come on to your gmail account or whatever email you are using.
