eh i'll work on it. i'm sure some is slightly genetic.

at my old job my boss's 2 year old daughter had a cholesterol of like 300...it was all genetic...which sucks. Mine is mostly french fries.

i have never had it checked, but i would guess:

LDL: very low
HDL: very high

I eat tons of fruits, vegetables, oats, whole wheat, dark chocolate, yogurt (real), olive oil, beans/lentils, nuts, soluble fiber, insoluble fiber, and I try to eat oily fish 2 times a week but I don't always succeed.

I eat meals with saturated fat 3-5 times a month. Fast food 1-2 times a month (always pizza, never burgers). Almost no unhealthy snacks/packaged food.

DOES CHECKING CHOLESTEROL INVOLVE BLOOD REMOVAL SERVICES?

IF SO, FUCK THAT.

oh yeah, and i drink lots of real tea, both black and green. now white tea as well (the purest form of the tea plant available to buy).

in short, i get tons of antioxidants into my system, a lot of them which are very very powerful, from sources such as prunes, pomegranates, dark chocolate, green tea, various berries, spinach, etc.

Aw yeah, pomegranate season will be here soon. I would say OEPII1 is right on. I don't have as good of a diet and my LDL is low and HDL is high. I don't recall the numbers but it was in a good range. Regular excercise helps too.

I've had it all my life. It's mostly genetics for me. Everyone in my family has it. They put me on meds for my triglycerides, don't wanna put me on meds for my cholesterol, they said it messes with your liver and at my age I don't need something to mess with my liver since I drink.

Besides my cholesterol isn't high enough to worry yet. In fact the last time they check it had gone down because I was working hard at getting it to go down. But my triglycerides went up skyrocketed up. They thought it was a mistake so I had to take the test again two weeks later, and in two weeks they jumped up another 300 points. My cholesterol kept going down. That's when they figured they oughta test my thyroid.

well sorry if it is genetic.

but at the same time, [partially] it seems like you wanna have your cake and eat it too:

drinking totally ups TG level. you know that high TG levels are very closely correlated with heart attacks, right?

Well, I mean it wasn't my choice. I don't even drink that often to be honest. The doctor just said that she felt that I was too young to go on a medicine that would mess with my liver like cholesterol medicine does.

I totally know that it can cause a heart attack, that's why I've uped my cardio work outs to make sure I have a healthy heart.

I mean and of course I blame this on being because I'm fat, cause duh, you would expect a fat person to have high levels of this....but the reason it's so high is genetics, and other issues I have going on that is messing with it too.

total...they say the normal range is 100-200...woman told me 115 was the lowest she'd ever seen in someone...my mom isnt exactly skinny(but not humongous) and hers was 150...when i told her mine was 115 she was like "damn, and i thought mine was good"

Last check was ~4 years ago, so these levels probably have changed. At the time, as best as I can remember, I think it was around 220. The LDL/HDL balance was toward the LDL (bad) type. And my triglycerides were high.

I probably need to do something about it if I want to live to see my 40th birthday, but...meh.

Do people our age regularly get this kind of thing tested?

I have no idea what mine is, but I feel sure unless I have horrible genetics it's really low.

Not usually. I got tested when I went on Accutane as a teen. They waited until I was 18 to start me on the cholesterol drugs though.

diet and exercise can only do so much against it, and it's not nearly enough

thankfully the Lipitor does wonders

Got bio-metric screening yesterday at my wife's company. Five results worth attention and need follow-up. Some are pretty high, like 200% above the normal range.

Made an appointment at the clinic in my neighborhood for double check and further treatment. I have to exercise everyday, not just weekend probably.

Triglycerides--290 out of 150
Total---260 out of 200
Non-HDL---220 out of 160

LDL and total/HDL ratio are a little bit higher.

I think I have too much fast food, burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, shakes, etc. This can't happen anymore.
Also a lot of snacks, popcorn, chocolate, ice cream, etc
Very few hours of daily exercise, almost none during weekdays and 2 hrs on weekends.
It's time to say goodbye to the past and learn a lesson from it.

Those levels are pretty high... gotta start taking care, son.

BTW, they are not "out of" anything; there is no maximum, total, or upper limit. Those are just suggested upper limits for optimal heart health.

I've had my triglycerides hit as high as 800. Doctor says it is hereditary, because my diet isn't that bad.
