on the cheap you can get a nice Wilson set from wally world. Go to a real golf shop and get some nice shoes and a nice putter (or at least a nice clone). $200 and you could be ready to go.

I can sell you a set of older King Cobra irons for ~$140. (2-9 w/ a driving iron) You'll notice a pretty big difference between those and a Wilson set from Wally world. No woods included, can throw in a KZG sand wedge. May be able to scrape up a putter to throw in.

I've got a Taylormade R7 quad that I'll sell you for 75 dollars. pick up a decent fairway wood and ^^ those king cobras are great if you're just starting out and you've got a pretty nice set for less than 300 bucks.[Edited on August 11, 2008 at 11:08 AM. Reason : .]

Have to agree with the Cobra comment... the King Cobra II Oversize has an amazing sweet spot for beginners. Bought mine in 99 and still keep them around.
