ibuprofen is better than tylenol, it's stronger.I have some hydrocodone if you want though...jk, I'm not offering you my prescription because that would be illegal.[Edited on August 9, 2008 at 7:50 PM. Reason : ]

motrin/advil is much better for muscle/joint pain. Tylenol doesn't do anything for inflammation. That said, I think it's not worth the trouble to go find the bottle for anything less than vicodin. OTC stuff doesn't really do anything for pain for me.

As ^ said...acetaminophen (Tylenol, Excedrin, etc.) doesn't do shit for inflammation.Ibuprofen, Ketoprofen, and all the other -profens do have anti-inflammatory characteristics, as does plain old aspirin.Naproxen is as good if not better (Aleve). I usually take Aleve in the liqui-gel form for muscular pains, inflammation, and general soreness...and have good results. If you do have a muscular inflammation or injury, you need to take an NSAID (non steroidal anti inflammatory drug) such as naproxen, ibuprofen, or aspirin on a regular schedule for at least a couple of days to keep inflammation in check while the injury heals. Just taking it for pain every now and then won't give you the full therapeutic benefit of the drug. You DO need to take necessary precautions, though. If you have ulcers, acid reflux, or a tender stomach, you'd better see a doctor prior to taking these meds, as they will damn near eat a hole in your stomach. When you do take them, take with food and/or plenty of water or other liquids to buffer their danger to your GI tract. If you have any blood clotting (or lack thereof) issues, then the same doctor advice applies.

Naproxen/aleve.Like lewoods, OTC painkillers do nearly nothing for me. Hell, I only take aleve as a 'stop things from getting worse' measure - it never actually gets rid of the pain. Shit, vicodin doesn't even do too well for me...I just care less about how much I hurt I'm very prone to tendinitis, so I'm all too familiar with this I've found that diclofenac sodium (Rx) does wonders.I can't think of anything tylenol is actually good for, especially after you compare it to NSAIDS:tylenol - sometimes works for some people; can stress the liver. Basically it's good for kids with fevers.various NSAIDS - sometimes work for some people; added bonus of having anti-inflammatory properties

^^for inflamation a heating pad isnt going to make it feel better, but much worse.I have permanant tendonitis in my shoulder with flare ups often, heating pad makes the pain unbelieveable. I have to freeze it.
8/10/2008 9:39:55 PM
^ Dunno what period cramps are classified as, but a heating pad seems to help so I use it. Yeah, sad that's what I get the good pills for and not some crazy awesome hiking adventure story that ends with me unconscious and permanently injured.

Advil if you drink at all. Alcohol and acetaminophen (tylenol) is a bad mix unless you're trying to kill off your liver.[Edited on August 10, 2008 at 11:29 PM. Reason : l]
