So I got a new job in Greensboro and we're going to be renting to start out with. We took a trip up there this weekend and looked at a few places. I'll be working on the western side of town so I was trying to find a place out that way. The best place I saw was a place called Autumn Park which was out on Friendly. We also might look into renting a house if it's in the budget. We're trying to stay in the $600's/month range if possible. If anyone has suggestions they would be appreciated.

Atlas recently spent some time looking around for places to rent- you should pm him about it. I can't remember the name of the place he decided on though... sorry

I live in Greensboro and am from here. Autumn Park is pretty nice, I'm just not really a fan of that side of town. It's not ghetto or anything, just really industrial. Are you looking for 2 bedroom places? The place I used to live Kensington Place is in NW Greensboro on Battleground. I rented a 1 bedroom for $565 and a 2 BR 2BA for $635 with a washer/dryer included. It's quiet, decent floor plans, has a pool, generally really nice for the price range.Just FYI, you won't be able to rent a house that isn't a dump or in the ghetto for $600 / mo. The best I was able to find before I rented my current house was $800, and they were tiny.[Edited on August 4, 2008 at 9:44 AM. Reason : a]

I've been searching on the internet for about a week now and Autumn Park stands out to me because of location and price. It looked relatively new and clean as well. I didn't really know what type of house I would be able to find, just starting the search.I also didn't know what side of town is good or bad. It didn't look like Autumn Park is in a bad spot though. But that was just my first impression from going up there Saturday.[Edited on August 4, 2008 at 9:48 AM. Reason : -]

it's not a bad part of town by any means, and it's convenient to just about everything. pretty close to Guilford College. Just the farther up Friendly you go as it gets close to Market you run into a lot of industrial stuff. Where Autum Park is though, it shouldn't be a problem.I can definitely give you some insight on the house search though. I looked for several months and ended up renting a 4BR, 2BA house for $900. I tried to search mainly in the $750-$850 range, and everything in that range was either in a shitty neighborhood or really tiny. I couldn't even find a 2BR/1BA house for under $800. The thing you have to realize about Greensboro is that it isn't a college town like Raleigh. You won't find a "Brent Road" or a "Thea Ln" type area where all the houses are for rent and cheap. The only area even close to that is over by UNCG, and those houses are dumps for the most part. However, my property management company PI Properties has over 1000 properties that they rent, so that might be a good place to start.http://www.lotsapeoples.com/site/default.asp?w={28A2BC74-234F-42AA-8FE6-AC2C39D8370C}[Edited on August 4, 2008 at 9:58 AM. I'm going to be working close to the area. It's right off of 40 on the Sandy Ridge Rd. Exit, Triad Drive. I drove from Autumn Park down Market to Sandy Ridge Rd. I could tell it turns industrial almost immediately after you get past Autumn Park. I can deal with that as long as its a clean, safe area.

if you like guns, the best indoor range in Greensboro is right near there. Calibers, corner of Friendly and Market. it's a good area over there though, mostly single families

I moved to Greensboro a year ago and have a 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom in Mission at Stadler Place which is also near Guildford College. I pay $720 for 1066 square feet and water, trash, gas, ect is about $100. I just renewed my contract so I dont find them to be any worse than other apartment complexes Ive lived in!
8/4/2008 10:28:39 AM
the Friendly area is really traffic-y...but the shopping center area is nice.
8/4/2008 11:33:36 AM
I lived at the Arbors at Landmark off of Bridford Parkway for a year and a half and hated every minute of it. I just bought a house in Kernersville and love the area.
8/4/2008 12:12:56 PM
Kernersville is close to where I'll be working as well. I just didn't really see a price advantage with the apartments.
8/4/2008 12:52:33 PM
I used to live at Steeplechase on Adams Farm Pkwy and loved it. The area was nice and the apartments were really nice. It's not far from Wendover or Guilford College but at the same time isn't near all the hustle. It's set back in a private neighborhood and is quiet. If I moved back to greensboro, I would definitely live there again.forgot to mention price but it was only 525/mo for a 1 bedroom at the time. Not sure if it's gone up but this was only a year ago. There were a few down there that we looked at as well. I saw that one, Lakeshore, Bridford Lake...etc. It looked like it was a very nice area.[Edited on August 4, 2008 at 1:37 PM. Reason : Lakeshore]

I just moved from Greensboro to my new house in WS.For 3 years I lived at Addison Point Apartments. My rent for a 1 bedroom/1 bath was 625/month but it included basic cable. Water and electricity totalled around 80-90 a month.Addison Point is off of Guilford College Rd near Big Tree. Convenient access to market and Guilford College Rd and if you take a little road that runs by Western HS you can get to Friendly pretty easily.
8/4/2008 1:53:55 PM
That was another one that we went and looked at. I didn't think it was too bad.

I grew up in Greensboro, and still am back there frequently to visit family, and the places you're considering are in areas I'm pretty familiar with.^Friendway road is the road you're thinking of, connects Friendly and Market (I went to Western). But Stage Coach also connects and is a shade closer to Autumn Park.I think Autumn Park seems to be a good location, close to where you will be working, and while it does become industrial immediately west, it goes all residential immediately east, has grocery stores/quaker village shopping a few blocks east, and Friendly Center a few miles down. Nice area overall. The one thing I'd be concerned about is that Painter Boulevard is going to pass *right* next to there (that's the highway interchange they're putting in on Friendly), which is a divided multilane urban loop. Even if they're doing soundproofing walls, you might want to try to get in a building that's not on the far eastern edge of the complex due to the potential of traffic noise. All the complexes down at Adams Farm are in a great area too. The only thing that could be a worry there is your commute--IIRC, College gets pretty busy during morning rush hours, and Wendover/40 certainly aren't any better.
8/4/2008 2:25:11 PM
I taught at Western for a year. It is probably not the same school you remember.
8/4/2008 2:33:09 PM
I imagine not...I know they added onto it and that the attendance zone has been redrawn more than once (I lived in Oaks West/Beechcroft south of Wendover, geographically I probably should have gone to Smith or Ragsdale but Western's zone extended out to my neighborhood.)I've heard it's a little rougher than it used to be, in my day ('94-'98) the student body was small, abt 950 students, and almost exclusively middle-class. Not to mention the feeling us old-timers seem to get that "kids these days" aren't as good as we were.
8/4/2008 2:50:21 PM
i live in the country club condos but i don't really know like...what area of gboro that is. so that is probably really unhelpful.
8/4/2008 3:44:30 PM
Any of those apartment complexes on Bridford, I would be leary of. I lived in the first one right passed K-mart and the longer I lived there, the more ghetto it got. The best thing I ever did was move out of that shithole. That being said, the closer you get to Adams Farm, the nicer things seem to get. If you are working near Kernersville and planning on living anywhere near Adams Farm, you can pretty much plan on a 20-30 minute commute to work. The traffic on Wendover there can be terrible. My wife works over near Best Buy, we live in Kernersville, and it takes her a good 20 minutes to get there and back.
8/4/2008 3:48:52 PM
yeah traffic is another good thing to take into account
8/4/2008 3:58:32 PM
^Dude, I from High Point, I know things and people lols ask me!
8/4/2008 5:13:27 PM
kernersville is an awesome area. if you could stand to live there, you'd probably like it a lot better. the forsyth county school system is pretty good, and that town has everything you could need (minus a big shopping mall). it's away from the city and has some nice parts in the countryside.
8/4/2008 5:50:26 PM
I've heard Autumn Park is nice too. My boyfriend has been staying at Steeplechase and it's really nice. The people in the complex are friendly and it's a safe area.

my friend lived at a place off of Pisgah Church Rd........can't remember the name, but they were freshly renovated and he paid around $720 for a 2-bdr i thought they were fairly nice
8/5/2008 12:01:22 AM
I know someone that lives in Abbington Place http://www.abbingtonplace.com and it is really, really nice. I don't know if it's exactly in your price range, but it's worth a look.
8/5/2008 12:27:14 AM
Yeah I've heard Kernersville is nice. The plan is to maybe rent for a year, then look out that way for a house. I have to sell the house I already own first.
8/5/2008 7:49:04 AM
.I live at brassfield park and is in a great area. I recently got a special for 599 for one bedroom while I am looking for houses. You should look at this area very nice and very convienent to Bryan Blvd. I also get a referral bonus if you tell them I sent you http://www.brassfieldpark.com[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 9:06 AM. 8/5/2008 9:05:09 AM
I live at Lincoln Green. Nice people and Guilford Courthouse park is just across the street. They had some pretty good specials running in May (1 BR/1 BA for about 600 or maybe less iirc).
8/5/2008 9:45:36 AM
Abbington Place and Brassfield Park are both really nice. Lincoln Green is a bit older, and I think it's mostly college kids that live there now.Abbington Place would definitely be closer to where you work, it's off of HWY 68, really easy highway access. Brassfield Park is a little farther, but close to Bryan Blvd. so you would be able to zip right to the highway. Lincoln Green would be a longer commute mainly because of all the lights you hit on your way to Bryan Blvd.
8/5/2008 10:59:32 AM
Thanks for all of the suggestions so far. I'm going to be looking at some of these places on Saturday and making a decision.
8/5/2008 11:55:30 AM
I have lived in Greensboro since Elementary school (minus the 8 years I was in Raleigh for College and work). Between my family and friends here, there is a good chance that i know someone that has lived at every complex in Greensboro.
8/5/2008 12:01:48 PM
The Adams Farm area is definitely a good area. My brother lived in one of those apartments for a couple years, like 3 years ago. Its quieter but still close to everything.
8/5/2008 4:57:24 PM
^yeah I was gonna recommend the adams farm and into jamestown areaalso the've really been building up the north high point area on the GBoro lineKernersville is further out than a lot of people are making it sound
8/5/2008 8:38:14 PM
i lived 1 mile from downtown kernersville on I-40 Business and it was 15-20 minutes to UNCG or hanes mall
8/5/2008 11:53:33 PM
Depending how soon you're looking to move, there's also a new complex behind Steeplechase(Adam's Farm area) opening up soon.

Kernersville is not that far from Triad Dr. 15 minutes tops. I live there.

Alright since Omar decided to lock my other thread I might be moving to Greensboro in a few weeks and I was looking for an idea on places to stay. I will be working at UNCG if I move so I wanted to find a place near the campus. I went their once and remember that part of town being a little run down so I was seeing if anyone on Tdub knew of a place that isn't too far from campus but is in a nice part of town. I'm mainly looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom apt or townhouse.
10/22/2008 11:32:36 AM
how close? are you looking to buy or rent? the country club condos are a pretty good location but it is a few miles away from UNCG so you couldn't walk but it would be a quick drive. and it is in a pretty nice area. close to downtown but not right in downtown.
10/22/2008 8:20:18 PM
I'm just looking to rent a place right now. I don't care if it is too close but I want to stay within a 10-15 min. ride to work. I want to be near a place that has stuff to do around it and isn't too far from some bars and retaurants.
10/22/2008 11:00:21 PM
It might have been mentioned, but I'd highly recommend Deep River Pointe Apartments. http://deepriverapts.com/I dated a girl that lived there for about a year and absolutely loved it. It's right on the High Point/Greensboro border ... practically within walking distance of the Paladium movie theater complex (also a Hams and Buffalo Wild Wings nearby). If you're working off Sandy Ridge Road, you can take a few back roads and be there in five minutes or so.The best thing about this place is the pool area. Really cool setup with a bunch of nice landscaping and a hot tub. Plus there's a lot of slutty HPU post-grads up in there, in case you were wondering.[Edited on October 22, 2008 at 11:31 PM. ^ Not really looking to move in with someone I don't know. Looking more for a place of my own.^^^That place sounds great but I mapquested it and it is about 20 minutes to work so I don't know if I want to do that everyday.Anyways I got the job and accepted today so I will definately be moving to Greensboro in a few weeks. I was wondering if anyone else had suggestions on where to stay. Like I said earlier I am trying to stay within 10-15 mins. from campus so I can still go home for lunch. Can anyone give me a general area that I should look into that would help me narrow my search b/c there is about a million places to live in greensboro.
10/27/2008 11:40:40 AM
wow people are talking about Kernersville on the internet. But since you want to stay within 10-15mins you will probably have to look for something within the Greensboro city limits
10/27/2008 12:15:18 PM
I live at Brassfield park Apts.Very nice pay 599 a month in a very nice neighborhood in Greensboro and close to everything that you need.Give them my name if you sign a lease to help me out though.I lived at deep river in high point when i first moved here and was to far away from everything and where i live now is much closer to the areas i hang out and work.http://brassfieldpark.com
