O.k. so I have been deciding if I should get a 360 or PS3 and I need some help. I am leaning more towards the 360 but i have concerns that Microsoft might release a new system within the next year or so. As for the PS3 I have to admit that I haven't been too impressed with the game selection but I am drawn to the fact that it can play Blu-Ray DVD's.opinions?

360

There was a rumor floating about that the 360 was soon to be putting out a blu-ray player add on kinda like the HD DVD player but i'm not sure of the status on that.I love my 360 and i've played PS3 but never on an HDTV so that could be what draws me away.. that and sony is shit.IF you wanna buy a 360 i have an extra but its just the core system.. no HDMI hookups or a hard drive. I got for 200 but will go lower.. comes with a wired controller and hookups(just for good measure since the other was locked)
8/3/2008 11:39:52 PM
both.i LOVE 360 and have played it since launch and COD4 is awesome if your have friends on live.i'm a movie buff and finally caved after blu-ray smashed hd-dvd and added a ps3. since then i haven't cut my 360 on...i've beat mgs4 twice and now i'm doing the emblems and i watch blu-rays on it. the ps3 is much better hardware wise and looks great and is quiet, etc. but the 360 is the better "online" system because i like live a lot.with strong exclusives on both sides, you need to own both. mgs4 is worth the price of a ps3 by itself.

PS3^ I actually agree with his statement, to some extent. If you've played any of the previous metal gears, MGS4 is a must-have.And yes, both sides have exclusives but the gap is getting smaller as more and more games are becoming cross-platform. All 360 has had going for it, for the most part, is was Live, which you have to pay for, but PS3's online is free and with the latest update you can do pretty much the same stuff online with the in-game XMB.[Edited on August 4, 2008 at 1:00 AM. i got a ps3 because of blu-ray.
8/4/2008 2:13:37 AM
MGS4 was boring as fuck. thank god that shit was free, i would have been irate if i'd bought a PS3 and that game. That said, when the full GT5 comes out, I'll be buying one.
8/4/2008 3:43:45 AM
Wait until September to buy either of them. The 360 i going to have a price drop, and the ps3 will most likely counter it with their new version which will have the dual shock controller.
8/4/2008 7:05:38 AM
360 will still have hd movie capabilities thanks to netflix but i want a blu-ray player still
8/4/2008 8:01:59 AM
So, do the newer models of the 360 (elite?) still have problems with the RRoD. I've heard that they do.
8/4/2008 8:19:55 AM
don't worry about it... rrod fixes are easy xbox doesn't even question it...

PS3 for the win Alex.Seriously, lots of fun, games for everybody but your kiddie gamers. My roommate (female) loves playing Pain and a few others off PSN.Not to mention Blu-Ray!
8/4/2008 1:01:08 PM
i was 500% in favor of the 360 until i bought a ps3.i grabbed one off of CL at a really good price and it is the superior machine. if you watch a lot of movies and prefer owning them over digital means, ps3 wins. there are pros and cons that make me happy i own both systems though.
8/4/2008 1:21:04 PM
PS3 for blu ray. 360 for gaming.
8/4/2008 1:34:17 PM
what games do you want to play?anything i want on the 360 i dont like playing on a console (computer) and everything else i like is on ps3, so the decision was easy for me.]
8/4/2008 1:35:43 PM
I have a 360 and I'm thoroughly pleased with it. Every time there is a PS3 game that comes out that I wanna play, I just write it down in a list. Whenever the next generation consoles come out, I'll get a PS3 then for super cheap and just play all the games I missed.
8/4/2008 1:38:44 PM
^^^Get a fucking family and some other people to spend your money on and then see if a grand is just something to piss away playing games.I've been doing the Wii and PC thing. May eventually get the 360, and maybe down the road a Blu-Ray player. Still can find most of the games I want to play on PC though, and don't really find a need for either PS3 or 360.Netflix addin for 360 is nice, but its is NOT HD quality. DVD at the higher internet speed, but don't fool yourself. Its not in 1080i or anything.

$1k over the course of a year to buy 2 consoles and a couple games is a lot to you?fuck that...not just over the course of a year. The xbox360 has been out for 3+ years...its not like you have to buy a new console every year.
8/4/2008 2:32:25 PM
i spent about $5000 when i built my house on a nice home theater and a flat screen system in the bedroom, bought 360 on launch, got a wii for christmas, bought a ps3 last month...it's not that much when spread out, but i probably don't get my money's worth on the wii (i do ps3 and 360 for movies alone if nothing else).and Nighthawk i don't have a family yet which saves me $texas and would obviously change spending habits (if you're fiscally responsible). but as an unmarried marketing manager, i am fortunate enough to save money and splurge when i want to.it all depends on your habits though, if you never watch movies and play games once or twice a month...a home theater or a gaming system is not a good investment. for me, it pays itself off really fast because when i get home from work i like to relax with my gf and watch a movie after going to the gym or whatever. it's all relative though.

Why I like the PS3:HDMI (1080p and 7.1 channel sound)Blu-ray* Built-in wireless**Bluetooth (Headsets, mice, keyboard, etc.)Larger HDD that is UPGRADABLE ***Built-in memory card readersAesthetically pleasingFree online play (Including PS Home to be released soon) ****Ability to install other operating systems (Linux in 1080p)ReliableSixaxis* Your DVD can hold 8.45 GB on a dual-layer, one-sided disc. Blu-ray can hold 50GB on a dual-layer disc.** I believe you have to pay $87.99 for your add-on (According to NewEgg, minus shipping costs)*** HDD upgrade DOES NOT void the warranty**** http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_HomeYou may disagree, but these are the reasons why I purchased the PS3.
8/4/2008 7:33:45 PM
the only thing that sucks is most of my live friends (including my brother and mildew) only have a 360...and i really like playing with people i know on cod4. i have been impressed with the ps3 i must say, but it's still struggling in the game category despite mgs4 being one of the best games ever made.
8/4/2008 7:38:56 PM
if you want a serious gaming and movie* (you'll see what i'm getting at in a sec) machine, go the 360 way.-- backwards compatible with about 200 xbox games-- has some xbox originals for download right on the console, and more to come-- plenty of great arcade games-- flat out has the best game collection to choose from-- xbox live has and most likely will continue to have more users, and better functionality-- hd movies*, tv shows for dl at reasonable rental prices-- starting this fall if you have a netflix you subscription you can stream movies to your 360 for free*the only things the ps3 have in in favor, literally, is that it contains the drive that won the hd format (which is expensive), and its more reliable, but ms did give a very generous extended warranty for what has caused almost all console returns (search: rrod), built in wireless/bluetooth is a plus, but it is not needed, and most people would rather have they console hardwired, at least at the current time. the fact that you can install an os is frivolous, and the point of aesthetics is moot, since thats extremely subjective. hdd size really is not an issue since 120gb is plenty for now and your console is easily "upgradable" to it if you only have the 20gb hdd. sixaxis really is nothing to brag about.as i said, if you want a gaming console go 360, but if you want some else, ie ps3, knock yourself out.[Edited on August 4, 2008 at 9:06 PM. ^if movies are more important to you than games, i think it has to be ps3 thoughi have hd dvd and blu-ray on the exact same set up and i thought the ps3 had a horrible launch and didn't plan on buying one...but the sound and picture quality are noticeably different and much better on blu-ray. i didn't think there was a difference and it may be that i'm crazy, but everyone who has watched both at my house say that the ps3 is the much better movie machine.most movie buffs like owning their movies too which i believe will always hurt a percentage of the digital media movement. i like the fact that i can have a wall full of dvds instead of a hd full of movies. it's probably stupid of me, but i think many folks are like that.
8/4/2008 9:30:17 PM
I love my xbox360 but I would agree with Moody about the PS3 for movies. Although I have both and I'm really excited about netflix deal because I do have a 3-at-a-time subscription which gives me unlimited "watch now" access...renting blu-ray movies with netflix can't be beat. I just got Apple TV for my bday this past saturday and I must say...I am liking that more than the xbox360's and PS3's HD rentals because the time it takes for 'ready to play' is literally ~1 minute vs. the xbox where I have to wait for fucking ever...plus the interface, available tv shows is pretty awesome...
8/4/2008 9:33:36 PM
i understand what you guys are saying, but overall the 360 wins, imo, but the ps3 is a good machine, but the movie offering on the 360 is way more than enough for me, and probably many others.
8/4/2008 10:00:56 PM
wired just announced bigtime pricedrops for the holidays on 360s
8/4/2008 10:03:19 PM
50 dollar price drop (at least), and ps3 has no price drop :/
8/4/2008 10:07:29 PM
and don't forget Folding@Home!!! boosts your work units like woah! I recently went with the PS3 over the 360 mainly because of blue-ray. I got the 80gb pack with mgs4 and I honestly don't play much games anymore. I also bought a new 42" HDTV to go with it as well as my 24" Dell 2408 lcd. I do wish I went with the 360 because it has a lot more good games, but I've had plenty of friends with the red ring of death problems (2 was when I was in the room playing... then they blamed me. )I also highly doubt MS, Sony, or Nintendo will release a new game console in a year or so. I'd say maybe 2010 or 2012 would be more likely. Although, they have already upgraded and updated both the 360 and PS3 with new chips and systems.
8/4/2008 10:21:42 PM
Bah, for me it would be no contest if Sony got their heads out of their asses and allowed the use of netflix and hulu for streaming. Nobody is going to use their shitty overpriced store.
8/4/2008 11:56:06 PM
I just wished some of the older games had 1080p support like GT4. has 1080i though and looks good.
8/5/2008 12:02:36 AM
i just bought a ps3 last fridayi like shooting games, fighting games, and sports games. PS3 has all of those. I don't get into the whole "RPG" thing, so I don't feel i'm missing anything with the 360.So far, I've loved the thing.
8/5/2008 12:31:19 AM
Oblivion is old but a good one.
8/5/2008 12:35:23 AM
Yea Moody I wasn't calling you out for how you spend money so much as bitching about the "Get a real Job" comment. I have a real job doing IT work, but unfortunately my priorities are different than yours. Wish I could drop a few g's on games and shit, but just because I can't justify it doesn't mean I don't have a "real job".
8/5/2008 8:17:54 AM
Yeah my post came off a little harsher than I intended haha
8/5/2008 8:57:18 AM
Just look at the exclusives and decide which ones are more appealing to you:PS3:MGS4, God of War 3, Resistance 2, Killzone 3 (or 2?)Flower, PixelJunk Eden, The Last Guy360:Halo 3, Banjo Kazooie 3, Fable 2, Gears of War 2, Halo WarsGeometry Wars 2, Castle Crashers, Galaga RearmedI just find it funny how many PS2 exclusives have sequels on the 360. GTA4, DMC4, FFXIII.If the above list is biased, it's because I think the 360 is a better videogame machine. The PS3 is a fine Blu-Ray player, but the 360 still has its own HD offering.

xbox live vs psn
8/5/2008 12:48:02 PM
omg but PSN home is "coming soon"lol...had to say it before the fanatiks get in here.
8/5/2008 2:23:54 PM
i still say both over a period of time. if movies > games get a ps3 first, if games > movies get a 360 first.
8/5/2008 3:44:59 PM
what movie can you see on the ps3 that you cannot see on the 360? sure ps3 has bluray, but any movie it has can be seen on the 360 in some form or fashion. thats just my argument.
8/5/2008 3:47:37 PM
the thing i like about digital HD rentals is that a lot of the movies aren't even out on HDDVD or Blu Ray. yet they're still HD.
8/5/2008 3:48:46 PM
I can't figure out if they're going to use the netflix instant view library or the xbox live movie rentals library
