are there any good ones in the area? I don't know exactly what prompted me to ask, but now I really want to know.

there's a cool one here.... http://www.hawaiiweb.com/Kauai/html/sites/kipu_falls.html but that's obviously not in the area.

haw river rope swing is cool. i can't wait to get my new camera and take it out for a swing.

they have better ones than that in Hawaii ... believe me. Try a 60-70 ft cliff into the ocean. Its a rush.[Edited on August 2, 2008 at 12:47 AM. Reason : -]

i've done a ton out there. the first one that came to mind was kipu sorry i can't be of much help locally.

^^^ no doubt. It has 3 levels from which to swing: one about 8 ft. up, the second maybe 14 ft., and the third about 17 ft. (it's been a while since I've gone). There's also a tree leaning out over the water with wooden plank steps going up it ... the dropoff's about 40-50 ft. high. It's a weird feeling; you definitely feel like you've been falling too long by the time you hit the water. There's also a mini-tree dropoff and a rope swing hidden in the woods off the bank of the Eno.

the top (third) level has broken off and is no more. but before it did, we managed to get 3, yes 3, people on it and swing off into the river,,, we were lucky no one got caught on the rope. speaking of which, bassjunkie almost lost a leg to that place.and the tree jump is roughly 35-40 feet and a lot of fun. just don't pencil dive like my good (idiot) friend did, there is a big boulder somewhere down there.

Yeah, when I went to the Haw, there was a loop tied at the bottom of the rope, which seemed kinda dumb.I just held on until the rope began to swing back to shore and then let go.

That damn loop was what fucked me royally, foot manged to thread the needle and got dragged back across the water upside down and shit

scrap what i said last; here are more accurate directions. 35°46'40.07"N 79° 8'54.10"W park on the near side of the bridge down at the right (construction site), then walk off into the woods by the river. the path will stay close the the water for a bit, then head up a hill away from the water. follow it for about 2 mins, then there will be a path off to your left, headed back towards the water. take that and you will arrive at a clearing.
