I always had it when I was renting. It cost like $175 a year for $25k replacement cost protection. It's so cheap to buy so it makes sense in the rare event something does happen.

I do.pros/cons are about the same as any insurance if you never use it it sucks to pay for it but if you ever need to use it most likely youll be thanking god that you have it.I use geico, but only because my car insurance is through their. most places will give you a good deal if you have other insurance with them.its not necessary for every apt building. some require it some dont. the place I am at now requires $50,000 worth to rent :x but its still fairly cheap so I dont care.

I use itpros: it's cheapcons: it isn't freei use assurantif you rent an apartment, it might not be necessary because your complex will cover just about everything except if someone breaks in and steals your shit. if you rent a house, I'd say it is a very good idea to have it just in case of fire, flood, etc etc.I'll give you a good example of why I have it. A friend of mine rented an apartment and his building got struck by lightening. It totally fried his $1200 computer. He didn't have renter's insurance. My renters insurance would have covered the full cost.

Pros:It's cheap. If you accidentally burn the place down/flood the place/sacrifice a goat on the living room rug you probably won't be liable for damages. If your property is destroyed or stolen you get it back. The stuff you own is probably worth a lot more than you would think when you add it up.Cons:umm...you have to pay for it?

ha ha, ok i get it, it aint freethanks for the replies, im renting a house out in fuquay and even though its in a nice area i dont want a storm or anything to come through the living roomi think ill try Liberty Mutual since i have my car insurance through them

yeah, mine is dirt cheap. I think it's like $40 every 3 months, but they just direct withdraw it so I never even notice it missing. That covers me up to $25k i think.

i just filled out the quote forms on liberty mutual's website and it says it would only be 75/yeari hope thats accurate, sign me up!

really no reason not to,its not like car insurance where you pay $texas and they offer you $rhodeisland when you have something happen

yeah, no reason not to have it.i have it with allstate (have cars with them also and get a discount)i have $56,000 coverage, and i pay $240 a year. well worth itif you get it, make sure you make a list documenting all your items and/or take a ton of digital pictures of everything (do this periodically as things change)in case of a disaster, you only have 1 chance to document your losses...and if you don't have a record it is hard to remember everything.PS. keep them in a safe place like a fireproof container or safe, or with a friend or parent[Edited on July 24, 2008 at 7:32 AM. I think it's definitely worth it. I have it with USAA, which I know not everyone can use. But I pay 156 a year, which is only 13 bucks/month if you want to do installments. With that I have50,000 for personal belongings100,000 for Personal Liability, although I think my apt complex covers me in that aspect1,000 for medical payments for otherI have a 250 deductible for my personal belongings, 7500 deductible if it's an earthquake

i have nationwide... it's expensive though $150/yreveryone else i know pays around $100/yrmy friend had state farm paying $100/yr someone broke into his apartment and stole pretty much everything, so he filed a claim to get his stuff replaced. it took forever to get his money, and he just got a letter in the mail saying they were going to drop him at the end of august... basically because he filed a claim.** not that $150/yr is expensive, just that i get the same coverage as everyone else i know with other companies only paying $100/yr.[Edited on July 24, 2008 at 11:29 AM. the condo insurance i got (the hoa on the house pays for the structural insurance) is basically renters insurance.. in fact i think it's called "contents" insurance. I think it's like 150k coverage, since i have to cover everything non-structural, cabinents, appliances, heat pump, etc.i got it through nationwide, and i also have car insurance through nationwidethe multipolicy discount on the car insurance more paid for the yearly contents insurance.. that's kinda cool. so i actually saved money by opening the account and paying off a year..[Edited on July 24, 2008 at 12:56 PM.
