lol. and my seats(bleh) in charlotte are not that great. I was SO out of it the saturday morning they went on sale I could barely focus to get in right at 10:00am (I was really close but not getting the holeshot out of the gate close) and even then I got seats at like row D but then I was too slow and out of it to fill out my information in time and it timed out on me >.<

Ended up getting like AA, but dead center. Oh well it will still be fun.

I'll think about it

The show at the Orange Peel was just so great for me since I had never seen them and I was like 5 feet away from the stage

I'm just worried going to see them again will be a let down

^^^ for sure. I know this will not even come close to that but it should still be fun.

Orange peel with much less people, being so close to the stage, and seeing a favorite band for the first time play for like 3hrs that you thought you would never get to see live can not be topped by seeing them in oven's auditorium.

when i saw SP at ovens auditorium in 98

well yeah

but the point being, part of me really wants to go because i've always loved SP

but the actual '07 show was disappointing even in a great venue

I'm a sucker, so I'll probably end up going.

But I'm having trouble justifying the expense to myself. It was easier to do with Greensboro last fall since Explosions in the Sky was opening.

When I saw them in Gboro last year, it was a bit of a letdown from my 2 Orange Peel shows (3rd row and 1st row at the Peel, ~10th row at Gboro).
It was just a different feeling. There wasn't as much crowd interaction. Not nearly as many rarities. Way too many of the popular songs. BWBW, 1979, and Today? Seriously? I've heard all those songs at least a bazillion times. Where Boys Fear to Tread was pretty cool, though.
The OP shows were so incredible because the Pumpkins knew who their audience was. A bunch of hardcore fans who would do anything to be there. They'd know the old songs and the rarities and the b-sides. And hell, they even know the new ones that were written a couple of days earlier. Their main tour is a different audience. "Oh that Smashing Pumpkins band is coming in to town. You know, I always like that Today song. I think I'll go."

yea when they played

"Fuck You (An Ode to No One)" I knew every word to the song because I used to read the lyrics booklet that came with the CD

I wonder if he noticed . . . I was going crazy down there

no shit, who cares?

Like when the Rolling Stones came to durham in 05, sure it wasn't them at their prime, but how many times do most folks get to see the fucking rolling stones live? if you're able, of course you go

You took my quote COMPLETELY out of context. Nowhere am I complaining that 98 SP > 07 SP at all. I was merely commenting on something someone else said.

I saw them last year and I woke myself up last saturday morning to get tickets to the charlotte date as soon as they went on sale. So Im not sure what you're upset about.

yeah i guess it was more towards vinylbandit if anyone but really no one in particular. just dont understand why people write a show off because of the band's age/venue they're playing in etc

the age or venue isn't really the issue...i've seen them in ovens and at the war memorial in gboro and both shows were great

the issue is that the new songs suck and there's no james or d'arcy

I considered getting tickets, but at $45 a pop, the two shows I saw in Asheville last year were enough for me to get my Pumpkins fix.

the balcony near the stage is actually a damn good view

and you're a lot closer to the band than someone who's in the second section back in the center

Q is def in the back

with that said, when i saw them at ovens in '98 we were in a similar position and a huge fight broke out across the aisle

so you're never really safe

SPOILERS

Setlist

01. Tarantula
02. G.L.O.W.
03. Siva (with new heavy rock intro, good vibes from BC, and hard rock middle that somewhat reminds me of Drown)
04. Eye (a very good rock version, very VERY well done)
05. Mayo (vocals only on "all this time can't be given back", BC solo at the end with Lisa on keyboard)
06. Tonight, Tonight (no intro by Lisa, BC seems lively- smiling when he sings "believe in me")
07. Speed Kills (Jimmy intro, Lisa on keyboard and backup vocals, BC said 'thank you' at the end of the song)
08. Transformer (Billy is jumping around and dancing, ending lyric "she is a real live transformer", Jimmy banging the gong, the audience is going crazy)
09. Superchrist (CD version with Lisa on organ, the band is really into it, BC showing off and playing his guitar vertically, red lights flashing around Jimmy from the floor as he plays a solo)
10. United States (BC points at the audience when he says "what will they do to you", Jimmy's solo reduced to 10 seconds before the US national anthem, BC played the anthem fast, new outro-might be a tease of something else, BC screaming)
--- BC says "20 years, 20 years", tonight Jimmy's playing TWO drum kits, he switches now to a little kit like is shown on SP.com, Billy is introducing the band: Jeff by full name, Ginger with new last name, Lisa, Jimmy... he seemed really happy to introduce them, BC: "take you back a bit, take it down a notch... this is from adore" ---
11. Once Upon a Time *ACOUSTIC* (Jimmy playing tambourine, the girls are singing)
12. Again Again Again *ACOUSTIC* (Jimmy on the small drum kit)
13. The Rose March *ACOUSTIC* (studio version, Jimmy on tambourine and small drum kit)
--- the small drum kit is removed, BC says "before we go on with the 2nd half of the show.... [talks about politics... calls it sh+t, says the band is not done]... I don't care what you read, what you hear we are not going anywhere" ---
14. Today (audience sings opening verse alone)
15. Bullet (BC very lively- dancing to "what do you want", before the chorus he says "SING IT", the crowd is going INSANE- loving this song, loudest applause by far)
16. The Beginning is the End is the Beginning (it sounds awesome with Lisa's keyboard, BC has no guitar, he took the mic off the stand and is walking around the stage with a lot of emotion and dancing, ends song with "I'm strange, you're strange")
17. Heavy Metal Machine (BC has a guitar now, he's being very dramatic, this song is the same as 2007 except maybe louder and no "Go ask Alice", Billy spins around LOL)
18. Glass' Theme
19. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun (intro is Jimmy on cymbals, the song is very loud, Billy turns his back to the crowd and is tuning a lot, Jimmy is playing a variety of percussion instruments)
--- the band leaves the stage, crew are on stage looking at the setlist, the crowd is screaming but could be louder shouting "PUMPKINS!", someone threw a cup on stage ---
*ENCORE 1*
20. We Only Come Out At Night (Jimmy is singing, unknown person playing accordion, everyone but Lisa is singing, Billy plays the kazoo, Billy and Jimmy asking the audience to clap, all 4 start to play the kazoo)
21. In the Summertime *COVER* (Jimmy on tambourine and then kazoo, Jeff gets a kazoo solo while Lisa plays keys, accordion solo with Lisa on keys, Ginger kazoo solo with Lisa on keys, no guitars, BC says "thank you" and Lisa jams... Jeff leaves the stage)

this made me lol...

Quote :
"they let us bring cameras in. i didn't see anybody from netphoria except monte, whom i did not approach. he did however, wash his hands in the sink next to me in the bathroom and then attempt to exit by pushing the "pull" door. the show was enjoyable; no big surprises...bc had lots of energy, demonstrating lots of robotic, jerky "dance" moves as well as a newly unveiled (to me) catalog of extremely faggy movements and gestures. pretty rockin'."
