Long story short the cat jumped out of the car door at the last second and ran into the woods near where i was parking.
The lady who runs a grooming shop there called the animal shelter and they gave me a trap and some tuna.

I can call him and he will meow at me but he runs away from me.

Is there an ideal way/place to put a trap for a housecat?

thx

i thought you hated cats and wanted them to live outside?

why do you want to trap it?

there really isn't a good place for it, unless it's in a open area, then they won't be as concerned to approach it.

maybe in addition to food you could try putting something from home in the trap...like a favorite toy or something? or maybe some of his food he eats normally?

can you throw a cast net?

Yeah, i'd say put his "normal" food in there instead of tuna.

My parents cat hates tuna.

It's fun to see what ends up in those traps.

Just like a month ago I was trying to catch a stray cat and caught a raccoon two days in a row using one of those traps.

maybe this is a sign that the cat doesn't want to be your pet. Put some tuna out in a bowl, lace it with sedatives. Or put it under a box with a stick so it traps the cat when its inside eating.

it's about 4 miles down the road. I just got back from there. he will come to within about 15 feet of me and just look at me the punk. i wish i had a tranq gun.

he's got his claws so he should be able to hunt and get away from dogs and things.

im gonna go back in a few and just wait some obscene amount of time and see if he will come to me

cant ya do the thing where you drag your hand across the ground like a little animal or mouse or something and trick the cat to try and pounce on it? cats always seem to fall for that when i do it.

i had to catch my cat one time outside, it was pretty hot so I just kept running after him around the house until he got tired, started panting and gave up

no i went back out to the area of woods where i last heard him. i had spent half the day there already. but I went back and called him (catcall lol) and he hollered back so we talked back and forth like that till he got close enough to see me and decided he didn't like it out there after all. i snatched his ass up and took him home and grounded him.
