Quote :
"(CNN) — It turns out that John McCain made an off-the-mark error when he launched at Barack Obama this week over Iran’s missile tests.

In a statement criticizing Obama’s positions on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the organization claiming credit for the missile launches, McCain wrote, “This is the same organization that I voted to condemn as a terrorist organization when an amendment was on the floor of the United States Senate. Senator Obama refused to vote.

The problem with the critique? McCain also missed that vote on the Kyl-Lieberman amendment on September 26, 2007. Records show that Obama was in New Hampshire and McCain was in New York instead of being in the Senate chamber for the vote in question.

The McCain campaign admits the error but points to their candidate’s tough stance against the country President Bush once grouped into the “axis of evil.”

“Its time to make the Iranians understand that this kind of violation of international treaties, this kind of threat, threatening of their neighbors, continued military activity is not without cost,” McCain said on Wednesday.

Despite Obama’s voting absence, his campaign is touting legislation he sponsored in March 2007 (S. 970) which also would have designated the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization. Obama’s legislation never had a vote in the Senate."

So basically McCain says Obama isn't tough on terrorism because he won't vote this group a terrorist. Turns out McCain didn't bother to vote either - but it's okay because McCain is 'tough' on terrorism. Not tough enough though, Obama actually crafted a bill to designate them a terrorist organization (never voted for in the Senate though).

This is a pretty blatant lie, and you would think with McCain's 60 something percent missing the vote rate that it would be the first thing his people would check.

If there can be 500 anti-obama threads, I fail to see why there can't be 2 or 3 anti-mccain threads Now discuss this

Even more so than Obama.

^^^^ Umm, this stuff is a little bit more pertinent than some comments obama made years ago about whether he was going to run for prez or not.

Except he didn't say that in this instance. I know it's hard to read, but do try.

so?

McCain lied / made a mistake / whatever...fine

Obama still is for negotiating with terrorists...who cares if its in that particular article? It doesn't change his stance on wanting to use diplomacy with Iran

and you don't honestly think that Obama is tougher on terrorism than McCain do you?

I do, this is my thread and I'm trying to keep it focused in this issue. I don't want it expanding into an overall thread on positions - we already have some for that.

Not related to this thread but I believe that both Obama and McCain have this nations best interests at heart and both of them want to protect us from terrorism.

well then i'll say this...it was definitely a mistake for mccain to criticize obama for not doing something when he didnt do that thing either...but over the last year or so, i'm sure mccain, obama and clinton all missed a bunch of votes because of their campaigning...man it would be nice if i could miss work for a year so i could do some job hunting...i'd still get paid and i'd show up for work sometimes, but i would be looking for a new better job at the expense of my current job

LOL at "crafted a bill". Learn the difference between writing legislation and just sponsoring it. Obama is a master at the latter technique.

I sometimes feel like McCain would be so much more successful if his career hinged upon being an internet tough guy than in actually, you know, being a Senator.

^well the media pretty much gave its preseason top 3 list for each conference...regardless of the order the Democratic top 3 was (in no particular order) Obama, Clinton, Edwards...nobody else had a shot in hell of winning the nomination...the media's preseason Republican top 3 list was (in no particular order) McCain, Giuliani, and to a lesser extent Romney (iirc)...and thats who the voters had to choose from since the media told us although Huckabee tried to break the mold a little bit...kinda like college football...if you're not in the preseason top 15 you have absolutely zero chance to even play for the national title

^ yeah that's the real problem. McCain was the most electable of the bunch. Which isn't saying much. Kind of like how Kerry was the best that the dems could come up with in '04, in what should have been a gimme for the left.

I thought Thompson might have been a viable candidate but by the time he finally started standing out from the rest a little bit it seems it was too late

"In his 2002 memoir, "Worth the Fighting For," McCain wrote that he had separated from Carol before he began dating Hensley.

"I spent as much time with Cindy in Washington and Arizona as our jobs would allow," McCain wrote. "I was separated from Carol, but our divorce would not become final until February of 1980."

An examination of court documents tells a different story. McCain did not sue his wife for divorce until Feb. 19, 1980, and he wrote in his court petition that he and his wife had "cohabited" until Jan. 7 of that year -- or for the first nine months of his relationship with Hensley.

Although McCain suggested in his autobiography that months passed between his divorce and remarriage, the divorce was granted April 2, 1980, and he wed Hensley in a private ceremony five weeks later. McCain obtained an Arizona marriage license on March 6, 1980, while still legally married to his first wife."
