haha, i'm glad i have all hardwood floors, but i have to be extra careful about static as well as i have a long-haired dog and live in a climate of ~15% relative humidity... static is horrible in the winter.i think the worst thing i've done is snapped a sata connection off the back of a hard drive.[Edited on July 8, 2008 at 3:07 PM. Assumed it couldn't possibly be the 1.5 year old processor that died. After buying a non-refundable mobo-- oh, wait.

i bought 4gigs of ram when i built my computer (about two months ago), not realizing that 32bit windows is incapable of utilizing this memory

^ I would just take that as an excuse to demo a 64bit OS.

Left my computer plugged in when I put in a new ethernet card. Went to pull off the little metal cover they put over the PCI slots and dropped it onto the motherboard. Made a pretty good spark and a loud pop. Pulled it out of there quickly, unplugged the computer, finished installing the card. The cover had a significant burn mark where the spark occurred. Prayed a little bit, turned the computer on. Everything worked fine. (And has continued to work for the last 4 years.)

In highschool, I was installing a heatsink on an old AMD athlon processor and I thought I secured the latch, so when I turned the computer upright, the heat sink falls down hitting the back of the graphics card. I heard a clunk and was like "OH SHIT". But everything worked fine. I was more afraid of cracking the CPU as it was pretty common with the old AMD and heatsinks.

When I built my first computer, I screwed the motherboard directly to the tray instead of using standoffs. That bitch is still working to this day.
