Need someone to help me get a couch and move it into where I'm currently living. It's on the third floor and I honestly don't know how well this will work, but I think it should be possible. The couch is from this thread - message_topic.aspx?topic=531758&page=1
7/4/2008 1:07:35 PM
and it pays what?
7/4/2008 1:08:41 PM
Do you have a truck?
7/4/2008 1:15:03 PM
yes
7/4/2008 1:19:03 PM
Well it would depend on how far we had to travel, but I would cover gas and it shouldn't take more than an hour or so hopefully so I would say like $15 on top of that.
7/4/2008 1:22:33 PM
From where to where?Does it require I pick anything up, or is the guy who is giving it to you gonna help.
7/4/2008 1:24:14 PM
couch is at uvillage if that helps any
7/4/2008 1:25:11 PM
7/4/2008 1:25:39 PM
That's not real far from where I am so $5 for gas should be more than enough.
7/4/2008 1:27:15 PM
does it require me to pick anything up?
7/4/2008 1:28:19 PM
Yes
7/4/2008 1:28:56 PM
$40
7/4/2008 2:54:03 PM
what?
7/4/2008 3:00:53 PM
i'll do it for $40
7/4/2008 3:09:58 PM
I'll do it for $30
7/4/2008 3:20:33 PM
This would be an hour of work tops. I'm not paying that much money for this.
7/4/2008 3:24:14 PM
Well I doubt your gonna get someone to drive from their place to your place to Fry's place to your place than back to their house and on top of that do heavy lifting. have fun[Edited on July 4, 2008 at 3:29 PM. Reason : ]
7/4/2008 3:27:43 PM
I'll give you $25 total to do it. You won't use that much gas and the work won't be that hard.
7/4/2008 3:29:30 PM
passgood luck
7/4/2008 3:30:35 PM
Ok then, anyone else out there like money? $25.
7/4/2008 3:35:35 PM
7/4/2008 4:44:38 PM

^true...

I'm asking someone to put roughly 10 miles on their truck round trip, and spend an hour (probably less) working for about $20/hr. They don't have to pay for gas and they don't really have to do any thinking. I don't really think this is unfair in any way. For all I know you two are friends who are trying to get the most money out of me on this by working together.
7/4/2008 6:48:40 PM
I've never met the guy...but your 10 miles would be added to the miles that I drive to get to your place from mine. You're essentially "renting" my truck for an hour, plus cost of labor. Your $20 an hour is fair, but cost of gas is also expensive as well. $.50 a mile, plus gas, plus cost of labor is what I'm charging...seems to me that the other guy is thinking along the same reasonable lines.
7/4/2008 6:57:59 PM
i'd say $40 is fairish as well.
7/4/2008 7:06:32 PM
40 is more than fair...especially considering its the 4th of july
7/4/2008 7:07:55 PM
Dude, I said $5 for gas. Unless your truck gets somewhere in the region of 7-9 mpg $5 is more than enough to cover that cost. On top of that $20/hr for driving your truck around and being half of a team helping move a couch is not unreasonable. It's not a bad deal. I don't have a lot of money to be paying for this, so that's my offer. If it doesn't work out then fuck it, but the offer stands.
7/4/2008 7:18:50 PM
7/4/2008 7:30:53 PM
if i were the imstoned dude i'd just wait til like monday or something...probably would be easier to find someone that will do it for 25
7/4/2008 7:34:52 PM
7/4/2008 7:38:17 PM
ok but you keep assuming they're making 20$, it costs money to use a truck, quite a bit of money. And just because we aren't helping you get a couch for you to smoke on doesn't make us lazy.
7/4/2008 10:12:26 PM
Look, $5 for gas, which is more than enough. $20 for an hour of labor. I am not fucking Microsoft or Google or some shit. I cannot afford to pay $30/hr wages.
7/4/2008 10:15:46 PM
guarntee you gas is more than $5start -> your house -> usuites -> your house -> finish
7/4/2008 10:23:32 PM
7/4/2008 10:51:01 PM
$40 is fairwait till its not a holiday if you want it done cheaper
7/4/2008 10:58:27 PM
pretty sure the holiday isn't gonna matter.[Edited on July 4, 2008 at 11:03 PM. Reason : ]
7/4/2008 11:03:07 PM
Honestly in my truck I'd do it for no less than $35, but thats if I really had nothing to do and needed the money.
7/5/2008 12:31:54 AM
if it can fit in my jeep cherokee i'll do it for 25. damn, I can't believe people are offering to do it for a high price, and then when he disagrees, and throws out a reasonable offer, people are throwing insults and continuing to argue about him not taking their offer because it's the fourth of july... I mean, you're on tww, what else are you doing?
7/5/2008 1:57:41 AM
^agreed.....25 is the low end of "fair" imo...especially on a monday for someone who doesnt have a job etc
7/5/2008 3:44:02 AM
yes clearly if we have about 5 minutes to come troll on TWW every few hours means we have an hour to waste resources and help him out.
7/5/2008 7:17:02 AM
7/5/2008 9:06:51 AM
Its the day after the fourth and I think that $40 is a fair price. Hell you couldn't offer me $50 to walk away from friends, a cold beer and a chaise lounge for less than that. Why can't people understand that they are purchasing a service from regular Joe's, not professional movers (which would cost a shit ton more). They have several other things they would rather be doing than helping a guy lug around his furniture. And for that you need to compensate said Joe.
7/5/2008 11:05:30 AM
It's either 40, or you take yourself to lowes/homedepot and rent a pickup. Take your choice.
7/5/2008 11:06:35 AM
i'll pay $40 to do it.
7/5/2008 11:44:01 AM
i agree with Ansonian on this one. as a respected helper of people moving around here, i say to you - your timing sucks, and anything between $35 and $75 is a reasonable request for what you need assuming you need* it right now. best of luck to you, but remember - on tww we buy things at rock bottom prices, and generally don't leave the house for less than $30 bucks.[Edited on July 5, 2008 at 12:18 PM. 7/5/2008 12:17:48 PM
$40 + lunch, and for the holiday they should have got their favorite drink.Honestly you're doing this all wrong, offer 2 cases of beer and it would have been moved by now...
7/6/2008 11:26:19 PM
I don't have a lot of money to do this. It's a free fucking couch for christ's sake. If no one wants to do it for what I'm offering then it's not really a huge loss to me.[Edited on July 7, 2008 at 12:03 AM. Reason : and i'm only 20 so giving someone beer is kind of out of the question.]
7/7/2008 12:02:46 AM
Shit, it costs me 40 bucks just to crank my truck and drive it a block, turn around and park it.
7/7/2008 11:03:55 AM
when I lived in raleigh and had a truck I used to make a ton of money on the side doing this type of work. i even posted a thread in Classifieds about it saying "need help moving?" or something like that. Depending on the size of the item, I think I used to charge between $20-$40. Of course, gas was less than half what it is now.[Edited on July 7, 2008 at 11:14 AM. Reason : f]
