Rivals.com is doing a ranking of the best college programs in the big three sports (Men's Basketball, Football and Baseball):http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=823259They have rankings for the BCS era and since 1974, and we're at number 19 (BCS era) and number 22 (since 1974) respectively. They assign the rankings based on a scoring system with points for different achievements (national title, NCAA tourney appearances, etc) It's a pretty interesting read, especially with little to no sports to watch right now.

GT being so high is surprising

where in the hell is UNC?oh yeah haha football.
7/3/2008 1:51:52 PM
ACC teams in top 25 (since 1998):2. Miami11. Georgia Tech19. NC State(since 1974)2. Florida State5. UNC20. Georgia Tech22. NC Statewe might not be great at any one sport here in 2008 but at least we're balanced
7/3/2008 2:10:27 PM
^we were balanced... now we suck at most all sports
7/3/2008 2:15:25 PM
#22 after 1974 is not bad at all. I'd say after looking at that list, its pretty spot on with overall team recognition for sports excellence. I can't believe the U of Miami and Maryland did not make it. Nor Mississippi State. Just goes to show how not having either a basketball program (Miami), baseball (MD), or football (Miss St.) does take a school out of the spotlight and national attention for at least one season of the three.^^ according to the BCS era, we are actually better (ranking wise). #19 is very legitimate. [Edited on July 3, 2008 at 2:20 PM. Reason : i love rankings, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy]
7/3/2008 2:17:21 PM
I'm not surprised at all that Maryland and Mississippi State (wtf?) didn't make the list.
7/3/2008 2:19:21 PM
No Maryland??
7/3/2008 2:19:35 PM
Maryland baseball must suck (I don't know one way or another) because they obviously won a basketball national championship, and they had multiple 10 win seasons in football with coach fatassbtw, notes about State:19th / since 1998:"The Wolfpack have six consecutive NCAA regional appearances in baseball, reached the Sweet 16 in basketball in 2005 and finished 12th in the 2002 AP football rankings. The addition of baseball to the mix enabled them to move up from 29th."22nd / since 1974:"The Wolfpack made 12 NCAA appearances in baseball during a 14-year stretch from 1986-1999 and have returned to the postseason each of the past six years, helping them move up from 32nd in the rankings."]

^4 I attend Miss St now and they have a real historic baseball team which should have put them close. But they suck at everything else in relation to the SEC.of course i cannot find it now but trust me.[Edited on July 3, 2008 at 2:36 PM. Reason : late]
7/3/2008 2:36:29 PM
I am guessing Maryland baseball did not meet the minimum points needed-they have to have so many points in each sport to be considered.
7/3/2008 2:37:07 PM
^^ yeah, their baseball team kicked ass in the 80s... teams were loaded, Will Clark, Palmerio, I think Bobby Thigpen etc.[Edited on July 3, 2008 at 2:38 PM. Reason : f]
7/3/2008 2:38:19 PM
Yeah, they have a decent baseball team, a horrid football team, and a horrid basketball team. So, why is it surprising that they didn't make the list?
7/3/2008 2:38:20 PM
football team has been decent at times, just been god awful the last 5-7 years
7/3/2008 2:39:10 PM
Yeah and I think the basketball team made the Final Four about 12 years ago. Overall though, they suck dick.
7/3/2008 2:42:37 PM
hahaI forgot that the football team won 8 games last year... not great, but not horrible either
7/3/2008 2:44:09 PM
I only remember because I was in NYC and saw them in Times Square.
7/3/2008 2:45:09 PM
Its surprising because they would have had to rack up the points through baseball. But last year we won 8 games However in the last 8 years its been "eh" at most. And yes the basketball team made it to the 1996 Final Four, but nothings come of the team since more or less. Things should be turning around for both squads this year we hope.Go Bulldawgs!
7/3/2008 3:38:20 PM
well, at least their team name is original and means/stands for something important... oh wait, nevermind
7/3/2008 4:39:24 PM
it is actually a bs ranking system because it doesnt take into consideration that its almost impossible for the northern half of the country to get people to play baseball there in college because of the weather.it would be fair only if they included hockey to even it out
7/3/2008 4:47:22 PM
yeah, but people in the south dont play hockey because we dont like boring sports... we cant help it if idiots slavs and polacks moved to the shitty part of the country
7/3/2008 4:49:25 PM
7/3/2008 5:13:39 PM
hahaha
7/3/2008 5:52:39 PM
^^^ its a lot more watchable than nba basketball
