Is it easy to get to. What are the odds I can do this roadside (not busy road). I know on my jeep it took like 10 minutes to do. I have a new one that is supposed to come today.

its the single most hateful task on a rover. all the road dirt and leaky oil gravitates towards the starter and the 6mm allen head bolts will round off... good luck bro. youll need a long long extention and a 6mm allen socket, and the heat shield comes off with one bolt to the motor mount brace and some clever prying. ill put it this way, i need a new starter (mine heatsoaks BAD) and i havent done it yet. its been two years.

you sure the starter is bad?[Edited on July 3, 2008 at 3:45 PM. Reason : its not that common.]

It has not sounded right for about six months, when you started the car it would kind of stutter I guess but it would usually start. When I went to get it on Sunday from my friend working on it I hit the key and it spun a few times then sort of a grinding noise.....then nothing. Then you hit the key now and just one click (i guess the solenoid) then nothing. The battery was just replaced two weeks ago.]

it is an automatic The only way that would work is if there was a cliff at the bottom of the hill and it exploded, burnt, and I got insurance proceeds.
