Baron Davis to be a Clipper!!

Quote :
"Baron Davis shocked the Warriors by opting out of his contract on Monday. Imagine their surprise now.

Baron Davis

Davis

NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that the guard reached a verbal agreement with the Clippers on Tuesday night and will sign a new multiyear contract with Los Angeles after the leaguewide moratorium on signings and trades is lifted July 9.

Davis was in line to make $17.8 million in the last year of his deal with the Warriors, but after telling the team that he wanted to stay, opted out at the last minute.

Sources told ESPN.com that Davis, 29, will receive a five-year deal worth an estimated $65 million.

Forward Elton Brand also opted out of his contract with the Clippers on Monday, and speculation quickly began that the team would try to keep Brand and sign Davis. This scenario is only possible if the Clippers renounce the rights of Corey Maggette and Brand takes a slight pay cut.

Sources say the Clippers are expected to do just that and quickly reach a verbal agreement to bring back Brand.

Maggette opted out of his deal on Monday as well.

Davis averaged 21.8 points, 7.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds last season for a Warriors team that won 48 games but did not make the playoffs. "

Don't really know how I feel about this. I think I don't like it. I love watching the Warriors play...Jackson, Ellis, Davis, etc. But I didn't see them getting any better next year unless they made some good FA acquisitions...because they certainly didn't help themselves much in the draft.

This DEFINITELY makes the Clippers better...but I just don't really care for the Clippers. I do like Brand...and since I like Davis, maybe this will make me more of a fan.

So I guess Magette is gone. Should be an interesting offseason.

I kind of wanted (though I knew it wouldn't happen) Davis back in Charlotte since I'm sure any former Hornets fan was a fan of Baron...only question was his injury risk (and this is his 10th year coming up although I think he's only about 29)...but he's from the west coast so I figure he'd stay out there

First, the obligatory Chris Kaman tidbit that must accompany any mention of his name

Quote :
"Kaman spent much of his childhood on a farm and as a child he used to tear shingles off of neighbors' rooftops and misbehave in school."

Second, WOW. I don't think too many people saw this one coming.

If they get Brand back, they could be a factor. The West is so good though that they may not be able to crack the upper echelon, but they will at least make the rivalry between the two LA teams that much better.

W's need to do something now.. they wasted the trade exception and have no true 1... Monta isn't going to run point, Arenas is going to re-sign with Washington...

I guess Chauncey Billups is an option? But I really can't imagine them wanting to sign an aging point...

Davis was born and went to HS in LA, went to UCLA, has a production company w/ Jessica Alba's husband in LA,etc. etc. I don't think he's too worried about cash at this point, he's down with G Unit too.
I can imagine that his newfound endorsements will cover what he lost by leaving GS.

nba free agency is the most confusing of all to me for some reason... same with the cap structure...

I think a big thing with Davis is the security because of his injury history

Yeah, he turned down 17 for this year to get 13/year for 5 years

But there's a decent chance he fucks up his knee again in the upcoming season and doesn't get the chance for a big payday

He's 29 going on 35...lots of miles of his legs

I wouldn't be surprised if they looked at Felton

He is suppose to be available and could thrive in that offense

not sure who the Bobcats could get in return for him...Charlotte needs bigs and the Warriors don't have any good ones to spare

ahh, good point, I doubt they get rid of Felton, like you say tho they dont have anything to throw back at them...

but i dont think they are gonna let Felton slide that easy...they like him as a 1&2 for some reason

im sure they would LOVE to trade for Brandan Wright altho Biedrins would be best

If i were Jordan Id offer up Morrison, May and Felton for Biedrins plus cash

not to mention they didnt want to sign richardson to a long term contract

When Zydrunas Ilgauskas is an all-star center, something is wrong at the center position in the NBA. So saying Biedrins is all-star caliber, that doesnt mean he's any good.

biedrins is nice but you're making it sound like he's one of the top 5 bigs in the league

and yeah i think we can agree that some players (ie Tim Duncan) are between a 4 and 5 and its tough to always have a "true 5" on a team

Don't count out Jermaine O'neal having a resurgence in Toronto

Also Al Horford could be great in a few years

The East obviously has slimmer pickings than the West, but I wouldn't expect Biedrens to just waltz in and be an all star every year.

I'd do Felton for Wright in a heartbeat.

Assuming Augustin can play. And if he can't play then we shouldn't have fucking picked him when there was Bayless/Lopez on the board.

Fuck Jordan. Seriously, fuck that guy.

The great players seem to make average or worse GMs

Jordan, Isaiah, McHale, Bird, Vandeweigh

The good players seem to make good or better GM's

Dumars, Mullin and Ainge

I thought Kerr would make a great GM, but he already has a 7 foot 380 pound strike against him

the Knicks apparently signed Chris Duhon, he's D'antoni's "engine", this should be interesting?

Not a terrible deal for the Knicks. 3 years, 9 million. Duhon doesn't create any offense with penetration and lacks ball handling skills in general. He's pretty much just a catch-and-shoot 3 point launcher that can also swing the ball around the perimeter. Good defender which is concept the Knicks are unfamiliar with.

I'd worry about a hard partier like Duhon living in NYC though. He's going to have a lot of distractions. Maybe being a starter will make him take basketball seriously though.
