One of my not to bright friends was urinating outside the bars this past weekend and was caught by the cops. the cops let them go w/o citation but apparently told them that had he written them up they would have to file as sex offenders for a year.

Is there truth in this? If so I feel that is one of the most ridiculous bullshit legal statues ever in the same boat as the law that gives drunk bicycle riders the same DUI conviction as a driver barreling a 3000 lb auto down the road at 100mph.

The label of sex offender creates a whole set of barriers and hardships for a person's life. Usually in society people almost automatically think child molester when they hear sex offender. Yet someone doing something as innocent yet stupid like peeing in public; gets the same stigma as if i go out and raped 5 little boys or roofied a woman at the bar before pillaging her.

From what I can tell, most states have a "three strikes" rule when it comes to lesser sexual offenses such as indecent exposure.

If you get cited for peeing in public THREE fucking times then you should have your dick cut off and forego the sexual predator label...

How is a drunk cyclist not a danger? He could could cause a fatal accident in which the cyclist or motorist get killed. I see your logic, but there are two sides to every argument.

There might not be a 'urination in public' law so they might have to charge the person with something like indecent exposure which could be a sex crime.

^^ I am not trying to say the cyclist shouldn't go unpunished. however, charging him with the same crime as a automobile drunk is kind of ridiculous. Espicially when u consider that a DUI effects your AUTO insurance rate, employment opportunities, and the shear costs associated. Not much logical reasoning is needed to see why a drunk pedaling 10mph down western on a little bicycle is not nearly the hazard as the big drunk suv driver.

At football games there are a ton of people that pee outside, and it's not just the guys peeing on that tree at the back of the parking lot. I've seen girls pee outside at games too. They'll open a car door, have their girl friends all surround her to create a human shield, and she'll do her business. I remember the first time I brought my parents up for a football game was in 2003, so we didn't have the ridiculous tailgating laws that we do now. Well we driving down Trinity and we look to the left and there was a guy in the Fairgrounds lot pissing in one of those bushes that run along the road and drinking a beer at the same time. It wasn't exactly the most conspicuous way of pissing in public. Everyone knew what he was doing. Most people try to at least go behind a tree or create the human shield.

A drunk pedestrian could do the same thing. A drunk 10 year old on a Razor scooter could as well. My point would be that a bicycle is not a motor vehicle. It's also not a vehicle that requires any sort of licensing. Don't we already have drunk in public laws? Don't we have some sort of laws for reckless endangerment? Then why prosecute a person on a bicycle? It's perfectly possible to cruise at a walking speed on a bicycle. I just don't see why we would want to totally fuck someone's life over riding a bicycle drunk.

I was told in my law enforcement operations class that it isn't illegal to urinate in public unless a member of the opposite sex sees it

you gotta be smooth when you piss in public. I've done it countless times and never been caught. Find a damn dark alley and a dumpster or corner (so that you're only visible from 1 angle) and pee. I've peed in public all over the United states and just recently Italy!
