On our tour of the birthing center at Wakemed cary, they told us they don't do this anymore as a privacy/security issue - someone could use it to find out when to kidnap a particular baby.

some hospitals make a little webpage where you can see the baby's pic once it's been taken @ the hospital, but i don't know ab out of state. it is most definitely a security issue and they probably won't give you much info over the phone other than what room they're in.

There is a company that comes around and takes portraits of the babies and the parents can opt to put their child's picture up with some sort of password protection. But they tell you now not to list the birth in the paper or put anything outside of your house announcing the birth. Mostly because you get your child's social security card and birth certificate, etc. in the mail now.

HIPAA would suggest that this doesnt exist

Some hospitals have that type of system, some don't. Its voluntary (so HIPAA doesn't stop it) and you usually have to know the mothers first and last name.

If the babies are expected "any day now," they won't even be listed in newspapers for at least a month, which is where any kind of site that would list that info would get it. Definitely not straight from a hospital. Yeah...If they're your friends, wouldn't they tell you the baby was born, or send you an announcement?[Edited on July 1, 2008 at 1:51 PM. Reason : sss]

i just figure they have more important things to do right now than giving constant phone or email updates...like having a baby]

My point was this:When my son was born we appreciated the phone calls we received. So - if they are friends - call them - they probably want to hear from you.

That kind of website would be the perfect tool for baby nappers. You think I'm kidding, but hospitals are hardcore about preventing that stuff nowadays.
