what kinda shit do you see happening? this is kinda what drives me to vote for him...i'd say if theres any one thing that makes me say "i am voting for barack obama" its "god i'd love to see how people react" and a lot of times that will be followed by "i'm gonna say 'ha-ha' to every die hard conservative"and then part of me wonders about the extreme white, err i mean right, and how they will react...part of me hopes there are riots and shit(which i will discuss if the time comes in this thread)...i think it would be good for america...would let the world know we take ourselves seriously i guess...after the riots everyone would be like "damn, we sure learned our lesson"anyone else see any kinda crazyness happening if obama wins? if mccain wins i think its gonna stay pretty similar to how it is currently(kinda sucky)]

if he gets elected, it's going to be a tough first term - trying to get us out of this war, dealing with a shitty economy, dealing with a horrible housing market. he will spend 2-3 years just trying to get us back to where we were a couple years ago, and he will get blamed for a lot of shit that he inherited
6/25/2008 11:28:33 PM
I am really hoping he follows through on his promises for meaningful political reform.
6/25/2008 11:47:39 PM
There aren't going to be riots by white people or any other people. And I don't think after he gets elected, anyone will make a big deal about him being half black.I do think providing more attainable health care for the poor of America will help them take financial risks they otherwise wouldn't have (because at the very least they could have their health) will reverse the trend of poverty and help reduce the economic divide Republican policies have created*, which I think will put us on the path to eliminating the social security system as we know it. This is the main reason I think Obama would be good, because making the poor less poor, and particularly the blacks, is going to have a lot of other positive effects domestically that will hopefully help bring the 2 parties closer together.* http://www.eurotrib.com/files/3/051014_US_poverty_rate_and_numbers.jpg

^ Did you click the graph?http://www.eurotrib.com/files/3/051014_US_poverty_rate_and_numbers.jpgIf you look at the downward cycle there at around 92, that was caused by welfare reforms that were enacted. So the president clearly can affect policy that helps or discourages segments of society.
6/26/2008 4:56:11 PM
Out of curiosity, what is the sample population of that graph? Because if you include recent Hispanic immigrants, that would skew the poverty numbers upwards. Also, to assume that something as narrow as welfare reform had a significant impact on the economy, ignoring the other driving factors of the internet bubble and globalization is to have an awfully simplistic view of the economy.]
6/26/2008 5:02:16 PM
^ The hispanic population has been rising steadily, it wouldn't have that effect in the graph. And the graph shows just poverty, so something like welfare reform is going to have a meaningful effect on a graph like that.[Edited on June 26, 2008 at 5:10 PM. Reason : ]

I think he would be a great outward face for the nation. Seriously, Europe, the rest of the developed world, and most of the developing world all love him.Maybe he should just go on a perpetual diplomatic joyride trip and leave someone else here to run the country.

This tread really, really makes me sad to be part of this generation.......you all are more concerned with how the candidates look and talk than the message behind it.I'd be willing to bet that almost everyone in this thread is voting a straight ticket democrat.....you all dont care about the individual candidate, only the D's.

id vote for a black dude if he:1. supported individual freedom - ie. capitalism and free market enterprise - which includes health care, fuel, etc. 2. supported tax reform - particularly lowering estate taxes, other double taxation situations, and abolishing graduated taxes.3. never once mentioned his race. EVER. This is why I am a Tiger Woods fan - best golfer ever and race is not ever an issue with Tiger. Obama has already brought up race many times (black fathers anyone?) Since when is Obama the spokesman for black people? I thought that honor was exclusive to Jesse Jackson and his entourage. But Obama would be a huge mistake - I would love a young black guy to be pres if he had Ron Paul's views - would be a huge statement. Wow - a liberal black dude - what a huge revelation.

Morality will go down hill twice as fast as it is now because liberals will be able to force their way of thinking on decent americans. Wait, that happens all the time now on MTV and the other TV and newspapers. Political correctness will be at an all time high, everyone will loose their own opinions and be forced to think like everyone else and if you don't then you will be looked down upon. Wait, that already happens now in the PC controlled media run by the liberals. Taxes will go twice as high as they are now because us hardworkin americans will have to start supporting the hoodrats in the ghetto who sell crack all day and don't work. The mexicans will overrun our country because the border will be open and crime will skyrocket because police will be helpless to prosecute people who aren't citizens of the US. A time-table will be set to get out of Iraq, the enemy will wait until we leave then overthrow the govt. that is set up now. We will be forced to go back into Iraq and help them stabalize the country. This will lead to many thousands more dead americans than if we had just stayed longer and held the course. Coffee shops will spring up all over the place because people will think the govt. will take care of them and they can sit around and not work all day.^ They talk about him being black and overcomming the odds of not being able to play on a golf course all the time. And I've heard him mention the obstacles that he overcame several times from him being black. He might not say it much now but he's said it many times before.[Edited on June 26, 2008 at 10:54 PM. It doesn't strike me as racist. He laid out what kind of candidate he likes and added that he doesn't want one who uses his race as a selling point.I'm of the same opinion, actually. Except for the Ron Paul bit.

so lets say Obama does win...maybe the Lane Evans Act, introduced into the Senate this year by Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and himself gets passed.maybe we finish the job in Afghanistan once and for all instead of starting another war for oil -- i know i'd like to see my buddy Chris come home. and i'll know my cousin's service with the Marines (who is one of only 4 name carrying males in left my family) was not in vain.yeah, maybe a few leftists social policies get through -- but i tell you what will NOT happen even if we get a fully leftist congress in addition to Barrack. we will NOT descend into the specter of communism. it seems near every election all the low IQ neanderthals come out of their caves and become the incarnation of Joe McCarthy. i am never surprised by it, but it doesn't cease to sicken me nonetheless.[Edited on June 27, 2008 at 5:07 PM. Nothing major will change, this guy is just another politician like all the rest. He talks about change, but his actions are no different than his peers. Hell, he is a lot less likely to cross party lines to get things done than either Clinton or Bush. Partisan all the way.

Ya'll people aren't even worth the time to type a response, so I won't waste my time but I will say one thing. ^^^ You my friend have no idea what you are talking about. All the people you listed, we knew their policies and they had spelled out a plan as to how they were going to do the things that they have said. Obama hasn't spelled out anything about how he is gonna do his big change. All he says is we are gonna do this and that but he doesn't have a clue how to or else he would debate with Mccain. The reason he doesn't debate is because he will get eat alive by his own sorry policies that he can't back up. The liberal media simply pushed him because they liked the way he talks and he can be run by interest groups. And nice use of the GD by the way.......way to elaborate your point.[Edited on June 27, 2008 at 10:07 PM. Reason : .][Edited on June 27, 2008 at 10:10 PM. Reason : .]

6/27/2008 10:09:39 PM
Doubtful, Obama is a powerful speaker, but not a top-notch debater. What is more likely is that McCain will make himself look like a fool trying to appeal to the conservative base instead of sticking to his principles.Either way, bigun, I've said it before and I'm happy to repeat it again. Politics is about selling a personality, not about policy. And trust me, I do know what I'm talking about. ]
