I'm trying to find a good gym that provides group classes such as yoga and pilates but also has a 24 hr gym. Any places like this around?

The one downtown across from the Hibernian is where I go.24 hours AND they have a ton of different classes throughout the week. Pretty sure they have yoga and pilates.

Gold's does, at least the one here in Greesboro. They have spinning, yoga, aerobics, etc., and they actually just started a MMA class that i think I am going to get into. They are open 24hrs except on the weekend[Edited on June 26, 2008 at 9:46 AM. Reason : f]

Yoga and pilates and such is going on at NCSU's gym during the summer...

I'm checking out peak downtown raleigh this afternoon
6/26/2008 11:08:22 AM
^Just be sure to read all the fine print. Once you're signed up, its impossible to cancel. I go to the downtown peak and I like it. You just have to keep in mind that the management is a bunch of high school dropout meatheads who will say anything to convince you to sign up. They also have several different specials running at any given time, so you should never pay full price. Depending on your specific contract, I think 17-20/ month is what you should expect. It varies depending on whether you want 1 yr or 2 yr and monthly payments vs. paying up front in full.
6/26/2008 11:17:49 AM
I also go to the Peak downtown, though I'm pretty sure it's no longer a 24 hour gym. I've never done any of the classes though.[Edited on June 26, 2008 at 11:22 AM. Reason : .]

If I'm not mistaken, they're 24 hr Monday-Friday. They close on the weekend nights.
6/26/2008 11:35:25 AM
^Yeah, I think that's the deal.
6/26/2008 11:43:12 AM
I talked to some guy over the phone at Peak who told me they have a special through monday for $25/month with your student ID. Does that sound reasonable or should it be lower like stantheman said?
6/26/2008 12:02:03 PM
6/26/2008 12:36:53 PM
^^ It should be lower. Yesterday they had a sign out front saying $16.99/month or something around that price range.

6/26/2008 3:04:03 PM
I'm paying $25/month with the "student' deal.I dont really think it's a special they run or anything....I think they just want you to think that.Basically for $25 you can go to ANY Peak facility and work out.I bet the $16.99 or whatever deal is only good for the Peak downtown.
6/26/2008 3:06:33 PM
That actually wouldn't surprise me, but my membership has been wacky since I got it (basically, I was a Beyond Fitness member, Peak bought them and I transitioned over with a new contract that wasn't set up properly) so I'm the wrong person to ask.
6/26/2008 6:42:32 PM
I guess the student and corporate memberships are going up to $30/month. I signed up today for $25/month.
6/26/2008 7:05:07 PM
How does Peak (downtown) compare to Planet Fitness? Im currently a member at PF but moved closer to Peak. Im paying 10 a month at PF, called peak and they said 25 a month. But Peak is about 1 mile while PF is 5.

LIFETIME FITNESS in cary is open 24 hrs and has group classes. Its only been open a few months. Its in Regency Park. It's more expensive than a lot of gyms but it has a ton of ammenties and is a hell of a lot nicer than most as well. My family and I have been members there for a few months now.
6/27/2008 6:04:27 AM
^Lifetime is a great gym if you've got a family. They offer a lot of kid activities and tons of classes. My wife and I just left because for the two of us it was overkill. The place is like a mall and can get really overcrowded. Plus they didn't police the weight area much so there'd be middle school age kids horse-playing around you while you're trying to lift.If you don't have kids, I wouldn't bother.
6/27/2008 7:42:28 AM
^ that is what my mom said tooshe got tired of going there and it being three kids to one adult
6/27/2008 11:15:36 AM
From what I could tell when I visited both Peak and Planet, Planet seemed to have VERY basic gym equipment. Peak had a much broader range of equipment and the staff was much more helpful. Plus in general it just seemed a lot nicer.
6/27/2008 12:40:44 PM
I would never step foot in a peak fitness. All my experiences with them have been absolutely horrible, as well as my friends. Planet Fitness has everything I would ever need. They do not cater to the "body building" type.. It is more of your average joe's place, but that's all I need. The people that work there are very very nice and helpful. Plus, they have free pizza and free breakfast once a month.
6/27/2008 12:44:11 PM
You know, I may be alone on this, but I don't think gyms should be giving out pizza.
6/27/2008 2:50:09 PM
I think the pizza is a nice touch. If you work out 4x a week, you can eat a lot of junk and stay pretty fit. Pizza isnt the worst food ever and people normally just grab one slice on the way out. Its not like theyre ordering deep dish Pizza Hut and handing out personal pans. Its only once a month, just something to look forward to for those who are on a diet

I went to the ol Peak Fitness today and signed up. 25 a month compared to 10 at Planet Fitness. Planet Fitness is another 10 minutes both ways so I figure itll be even with gas. The 16.99 at Peak is only for Tues, Thurs and Sunday. Sort of an off-days attempt to get more business. With my student discount I got every day for 25, alright I guess...You get 2 free personal training sessions, nutritional meeting, body fat estimate, massage and chiropractor. Lots of crap basically. Is it me or are there a lot of 'trendy' guys there. Just the vibe I got but whatever
6/27/2008 5:44:54 PM
I work out at Planet Fitness everyday (sometimes twice a day). Its a real bummer between 5:00-8:00PM because it seems everyone in the city has a membership and comes in at that time. But, between 10AM-4:30PM its completely quiet and from 8:30PM-Whenever it's the same. Though they don't cater to "bodybuilders" if you are serious about weight training you'll still be at home there. Theres a lot of new equipment thats been added over the last two weeks and a variety of cardio machines. I love the staff and its a real clean gym. Not to mention the price ($10 a month) for 24 hour access is awesome.
6/28/2008 2:43:03 AM
^I never had problems at planet fitness, and I went way over their so-called limits for what you were allowed to put on the bench and squat rack. I also deadlifted in there without complaint. The only reason I left is because I bought a house that is really close to the Gold's in Cary.[Edited on June 29, 2008 at 2:41 PM. Reason : PF is also one of the cleanest gyms in the area, or at least it used to be a couple years ago]
6/29/2008 2:40:09 PM
I am a fan of the YMCA but I guess that is expensive compared to the other gyms? It is like $29.95 a month so I guess that is more expensive. I just like all the classes they have and the facility is really nice and the pool, etc. But yea...not exactly the best buy I suppose.
