What is the typical file size/ unit time size for one of these?I will be storing these files on an external hard drive and am wondering how big it should be. I am not talking about standard 480 resolution but 720p or 1080i seeing as how I am buying an HD Satellite receiver.

well, it really varies, but a 720p 120-minute movie runs ROUGHLY 37.5mb/minute, so about 4.5gbROUGHLY

no, its a lot bigger than that. straight DVD rips are 3-5gigs for a 2 hour movie. i've been doing that the past two days.

damn, i need to convert some of my raw hd footage to something else, one hour is like 15 gigs from my camcorder

^^mpeg4s have compression, they should be smaller than straight dvd rips which are mpeg2sand honestly it depends on what codec you use
