A couple that come to mind:
1.) Joe #s with recovering from surgery
2.) Nerdchick and her interview on Tuesday
3.) Spontaneous and his business venture

Anybody else?

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?

5. My son, Silas. We find out tomorrow if the donor tissue that they have is good. If so, he goes to transplant later this week.

This prodigious event is still on its way, still wandering; it has not yet reached the ears of men. Lightning and thunder require time, the light of the stars requires time, deeds, though done, still require time to be seen and heard. This deed is still more distant from them than the most distant stars—and yet they have done it themselves.

God is Dead; but given the way of men, there may still be caves for thousands of years in which his shadow will be shown. And we — we still have to vanquish his shadow, too.

Me...been struggling with a severe herniated disc which is pinching my L5 nerve root and my sciatic nerve all the way down to my foot for 6 months. Can't walk, can't exercise, can't bend, can't drive...as my leg burns and my foot tingles and back pain out the ass! Tried steroids, painkillers, and etc., the shots, p.t., chiropractor (now trying spinal decompression). *sigh*

And tonight, I got a 2nd degree burn on my arm/wrist with the skin all peeled back and shit...is 4 inches long and 1/2 inch thick! OUCH!

"God is dead" is not meant literally, as in "God is now physically dead"; rather, it is Nietzsche's way of saying that the idea of God is no longer capable of acting as a source of any moral code or teleology. Nietzsche recognizes the crisis which the death of God represents for existing moral considerations, because "When one gives up the Christian faith, one pulls the right to Christian morality out from under one's feet. This morality is by no means self-evident... By breaking one main concept out of Christianity, the faith in God, one breaks the whole: nothing necessary remains in one's hands."[1] This is why in "The Madman", the madman addresses the atheists primarily — the problem is to retain any system of values in the absence of a divine order.

The death of God is a way of saying that humans are no longer able to believe in any such cosmic order since they themselves no longer recognize it. The death of God will lead, Nietzsche says, not only to the rejection of a belief of cosmic or physical order but also to a rejection of absolute values themselves — to the rejection of belief in an objective and universal moral law, binding upon all individuals. In this manner, the loss of an absolute basis for morality leads to nihilism. This nihilism is what Nietzsche worked to find a solution for by re-evaluating the foundations of human values. This meant, to Nietzsche, looking for foundations that went deeper than Christian values. He would find a basis in the "will to power" that he described as "the essence of reality".

Nietzsche believed that the majority of people did not recognize (or refused to acknowledge) this death out of the deepest-seated fear or angst. Therefore, when the death did begin to become widely acknowledged, people would despair and nihilism would become rampant. This is partly why Nietzsche saw Christianity as nihilistic. He saw himself as a historical figure like Zarathustra, Socrates or Jesus, giving a new philosophical orientation to future generations to overcome the impending nihilism.

I'm not attacking the thread

wishing people well is a great thing to do

but folks should recognize that God isn't going to fix their problems
I mean, if God helps those who help themselves then why does he get all of the credit?

feel good about your accomplishments and try to help others too

people who think that Nietzsche's statement was somehow celebratory have greatly misconstrued his writings... which is why I provided a few excerpts and some explication

but a great many people use religion and tradition as a crutch in order to avoid being analytical and to avoid taking responsibility for their decisions, actions and their consequences

why don't we all pray for god to take away cancer and aids and the common cold and all of the pain and suffering in the world? you know, like proactive prayer.

is it because deep down we all know it wouldn't work?

I would go on to talk about how without suffering we could never know joy, but that would be pointless.

9.) My boyfriend (Lucky1) whom ThePeter mentioned earlier. He's in the hospital and having surgery on his broken arm tomorrow, while I am flying home from Montana. His wreck was nasty this morning, his truck was totaled, and he is fortunate to be alive after a fence post came through the windshield and just missed his head.

My dad had a stroke a few weeks ago, so I'd like us to go ahead and pray for his situation. He's got a serious speach impediment, as well as other motor skills like writing, and handling objects. He's getting test done and hopes that they'll be able to find out where the clots are (he thinks there are more than one). Our church and my sister's boss's church were both praying for him to break down and go to the doctor to start with (which he stubbornly wouldn't do), and after a week of our (my sister, myself, and our mother) coaxing him, he finally gave in, which was a huge prayer answered.

My sister's boss's daughter is staying out late, getting drunk, coming in around 6 in the morning on a regular basis, and just leaving her mother stressed and very worried. The mother's name is Mel, and she works at the Smoker Friendly off of Atlantic.

I made it to NC from Montana today and am in Lucky1's hospital room with him right now. His surgery went ok today. He can't move his left arm at all. Its so nice just to see him.
