Anybody have the video?
6/21/2008 7:27:17 PM
they showed a replay on espn2 a little while ago.he had a good run going and toward the end of the track there's a huge explosion, chutes never go or anything. slams right into the wall at the end of the track going about 300 mph, huge explosion.
6/21/2008 7:33:51 PM
I'm surprised they haven't talked to John Force yet (unless I missed it already). The Force Team would be the best to talk to, unless they are all with the Kalitta family.

guess i'll have to wait til somebody uploads it on youtube.

Why is there a wall at the end of the track?
6/21/2008 9:03:03 PM
^usually simply because of space limitations. the track's already 1/4 mile plus room to slow down under normal conditions.
6/21/2008 9:10:12 PM
Couldn't it just be open-ended or with some kind of runnaway-truck-style sand trap? Seems a little strange to have a solid wall there for people to crash into if anything goes wrong.
6/21/2008 9:29:29 PM
they have the sand and some type of catch netting I believe. But if you have a relatively heavy vehicle going well over 150 there's not much those things can do.
6/21/2008 9:50:55 PM
yeah, i think they had it padded with sand or something, but at 300 mph it just as well had been a brick wall
6/21/2008 10:00:29 PM
RIP...at least he died doing what he loved. That shit was scary, though.
6/21/2008 10:14:45 PM
faces of death
6/21/2008 10:24:07 PM
of my life ambitions... racing in this sport just fell out of my top 5 after this RIP Scott Kalitta
6/21/2008 11:43:03 PM
was there a cameraman up in that crane near the end of that video or was it remote controlled?
6/22/2008 1:15:27 AM
that video is just eery.......the first explosion, then the car not slowing down at all, and then hitting the wall and totally just blowing up like hell.....i mean.....there really was no doubt that he was dead after that
6/22/2008 2:06:18 AM
6/22/2008 8:40:12 AM
Irregardless of space limitations, there shouldn't have been a wall there. If there had to be for whatever reason, it shouldn't have been a solid concrete one.
6/22/2008 11:02:03 AM
they gotta contain the crash
6/22/2008 11:07:32 AM
supposedly there's a state road a couple of hundred feet on the other side of that wall
6/22/2008 12:06:19 PM
not even a couple hundred feet. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Englishtown+raceway,+Monmouth,+New+Jersey,+United+States&ie=UTF8&ll=40.330483,-74.350888&spn=0.006298,0.01781&t=h&z=17Looks like there's a full 2200ft after the finish to shut down, 100ft of sand before the wall, and then another 100 ft to the trees and road.
