so i'm looking at some new 07 and used 08 (let someone else take the depreciation hit and i keep the warranty) 2500HD duramax trucks and i can't decide what setup to get

its either crew cab long bed, or extended cab short bed

i have an extended cab short bed now and its the worst of both worlds, i would love the ability to carry normal sized people in the back, but a 6' bed sucks balls

a drove a crew cab long bed for years, and parking spots are even smaller and harder to come by now

also tryin to decide where to go with this one, i'm thinkin a mild build, keep it close to stock, definitely a exhaust and intake, and a programmer, for gas mileage most of the time, and maybe a 2-3 suspension lift to clear 33's, nothing quite as ridiculous as big red, this one is gonna see a lot of long trips, >1500 miles in a weekend

i won't be doing contracting work on the side anymore to pay my tution, so i dont have a need to carry a superflous amount of tools around anymore, probably wont even put a toolbox on the new truck, i'll just shove a toolbag, tow straps and shit under the backseat

and for the styling, i like the 08 better, the gmcs have always looked better than the chevys on the front end

my shit clears 32.6's (285/65/18) with just a 1.5" lift in the front. however, if you do plan on running true 33's, i'd look into the cognito motorsports UCA lift kit.

btw, if you want a safe tuner that really adds balls to the duramax i'd get the hypertech max energy. you can tow on level 3 and is a tranny-safe tune from what i've read. this is the same programmer i have and i leave mine on level 3. the power is outstanding and i gained 3 mpg in the city.

this is basically the same mods i have on my LBZ.

I agree the GMC's always look better to me. I'd go with extended cab short bed personally. Unless you're doing something that is going to need the long bed I really don't see the point.

i thought about that, but couldn't find any E load range 285's, only D's

you only need to rekey if you plan on going over 2.5". i wanted to avoid the harsh ride and extreme cv angles so i only turned the adjusters 6 turns which brought it up 1.5". the other issue with raising the front is the stock shocks aren't long enough and will actually limit the suspension travel. you can buy shock extenders but the oem shocks are garbage and won't last more than 20K miles. i plan on buying the extended bilstein shocks next which allow for more travel.

mine are load range E. they are the new michelin ltx a/t2 285/65/18. expensive as fuck though. i know the nitto terra grappler comes in "E" also. i'm sure you know this but most people with these trucks don't know to make sure the tire installer uses high pressure valve stems. most stems used have a max rating of 60psi. an "E" range tire has a maximum pressure of 80psi.

good luck on your quest to find a c.c. l.b. you can find them but most of them will be the work truck special with no power of any sorts inside. most of the c.c. l.b.'s i've found on the road that aren't white base models the owner had to order like i did mine.

Looks like i will have to settle for a short bed, that means no toolbox if i plan to haul my bike in it, but since i wont be doing any side work anymore, its not really a big deal. Might just get a trailer hitch mount bed extender for 12'+ lumber and shit when I buy a new house next spring.
