Lemme know your rates. I'll only be meeting you once a week for about two to three hours for material review, examination (if available), q&a, and a brief discussion of the upcoming material.[Edited on June 19, 2008 at 7:12 PM. Reason : Gonna get the O'Reilly book, if you have any other suggestions, feel free to provide those as well.]

Larry Ullman - PHP for the World Wide Web. (Visual Quickstart Guide) I'm partial to this series for learning a new programming language, breaks complex codes down into a series of easily digestible steps. I've actually used the series for HTML, CSS, Javascript, as well as PHP. Also, wake tech offers a 5 week course for $60, meets twice a week, once during a weekday evening and then there's a lab on saturday which can be completely remotely.

Nighttime course? Also, is it just for beginners or can it take me up to a practical level of usage?

During the first summer session it was Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30, I dont have any details on the 2nd session, but if they're offering it again, I imagine it'd be the same. The end result is a moderate level of skill I'd say; it's definitely the route to take if you've got 0 experience with the language.
