She's a very well spoken and intelligent woman.

Frenchiness. I think people should be citing her as a reference instead of all these other chickenhawk journalists. Oh, burn.

The Daily Show has so much influence on knowledge of events, public discourse, and the general internets that it's getting scary.
6/19/2008 9:31:26 AM
Why are fake news shows more thought-provoking than the real news shows? That is the question of our time... and this crushing reality that consists of oblivious misdirection by the media is unacceptable, regardless of the party affiliation it leans towards.[Edited on June 19, 2008 at 10:06 AM. ^^ John Stewart has a bias and I think he openly admits. Seriously, some guests he will just rip into. He's gotten more and more bold doing this over the years. I'd say about the only way to interview without inserting your bias is what like Colbert does. Where the interviews are *literally* a joke.Lately, he really gave McCain a talking to. Pretty much everyone who supported the war / support staying in Iraq. He's said some things pretty much to the effect of "a good of stopping American deaths would be to... take them home".
6/19/2008 9:57:27 AM
I won't comment on Jon Stewart himself, he's obviously opinionated. However, his show provides a sense of civil discourse and basic fairness when arguing any point that other "real" news shows simply do not have. I don't agree with him a lot of the time, but I respect his willingness to allow voices to be heard.[Edited on June 19, 2008 at 10:06 AM. Reason : -]

I meant that as more of a rhetorical question, but yeah I agree that humor can reveal the truth behind people's ideas and pre-conceived notions. In other news, Lara Logan is so amazingly hot... in all ways, shapes, and forms.

I love South African women.
6/20/2008 8:07:57 PM
That was probably the best interview I'd ever seen anywhere. It's a damn shame that it had to happen on a cable comedy show from the same chair that Adam Sandler was sitting in to sell us on You Don't Mess With the Zohan.

I had never heard of this Lara Logan chick, but I don't really watch network news (I mostly read NYT and Wired ). It sounds like she's a very smart and brave woman. She also sounds a bit full of herself on that Daily Show clip. Her and Anderson Cooper should hook up so they can have a couple of self-righteous kids.PS* I don't understand why everyone is kissing the Daily Show's ass, like they are the only one's that realize her value as a reporter. She's on fucking CBS for fucks sake. Apparently with nightly news reports. Something tells me the Daily Show is a STEP DOWN from the real reporting she actually does. If y'all would quit reading High Times and watching Comedy Central, maybe you would get some real news to start with. PPS* Just joshing. [Edited on June 21, 2008 at 4:01 PM. Reason : ``]

My comment didn't have anything to do with valuing her opinion, it had to do with her attitude. She really did act like she was full of herself. A reporter asks a legit question and her response is "I have seen dead soldiers and you haven't"? Come on. And when she says "we" may be tired of hearing about Iraq (I'm assuming she means all Americans and not just her and Jon Stewart), she makes it sound like we're a nation of people that would rather watch desprate housewives than hear about Iraq (of course, her other comments indicate she doesn't consider herself a part of that unwashed majority). None of that sounds very humble, even if you do agree with it. And I wasn't mocking her for going on the daily show. I was lightly mocking the daily show itself and the people who watch it. Like I said it's a step down for her. The Daily Show I watch is none of the things you describe and probably hasn't been since 2005. What thought-provoking questions do they actually ask? Really? He gets in the face of some of people he doesn't like (which apparently now includes John McCain), but you certainly won't see him grilling the people he actually likes (which apparently now includes Barack Obama). You know what that makes him? A partisan hack. And really that's fine with me. It's a comedy show and soap box. It's nothing serious. Jon Stewart himself admits his show is not about hard-hitting questions. It's infotainment for the sponge bob generation. A struggling piece of infotainment at that. All his best writers have apparently left for the much funnier Colbert Report. But jeez. Calm down man. It's all fucking TV. Everybody knows the real news is either in print or in bytes. John Stewart is a lot different than Limbaugh; Stewart comments on politics while Limbaugh conspires to influence them.
6/22/2008 12:51:59 PM
^ Yah, Stewart has absolutley zero agenda and none of his "coverage" is driven to persuade the viewer to his view point.......yah.
6/22/2008 1:01:41 PM
he has a liberal bias, but he does not have an agenda to influence the election. Limbaugh however has a pretty transparent agenda, and often instructs his listeners (even if that means illegally voting in a primary)
6/22/2008 3:56:35 PM
Stewart has been very even handed in his criticism of people on both sides of the aisle. His criticism is sharp, informed and fair. Limbaugh is a easily discountable idiot (failed out of 3rd rate university) who preaches to culturally isolated, uneducated and ignorant absolutists who need to be told what to believe.

I haven't been reading this thread, but what does humility have to do with anything?
6/22/2008 10:55:19 PM
I said that while Logan was a brave woman, she sounded full of herself in the Daily Show clip. Stimwalt replied that she was not full of herself. Instead he thought of her as a humble person.
6/22/2008 11:01:54 PM
Oh, i see. So it doesn't really have to do with anything (other than stimwalt being smitten... can you blame him though?).
6/22/2008 11:04:11 PM
Nothing beyond the usual TSB BS.
6/22/2008 11:07:14 PM
I think Logan deserves some respect because she has had and continues to have her ass, which is lovely, BTW, in the grass--or sand--and almost had it shot off a couple times. She and I would more than likely disagree about politics, though. BTW, the accent seals the deal for me. Oh, and did I mention that's she a very talented journalist, too. ^ True. [Edited on June 23, 2008 at 4:49 AM. Reason : .]
6/23/2008 4:48:52 AM
I suppose we will agree to disagree then? Lara is a humble person considering everything that she has accomplished, experienced, and endured. I would define her attitude in that clip as exactly what this country needs to listen too. She is a head-strong, outraged, disappointed, angry, information soldier that remains hopeful and confident in the American people themselves. As a side note, your luddite attitude towards anything that isn't in written word is amusing to me because it may be truly lacking in worldwide scope. Most people broaden their information horizons slightly more than you do Socks. Also, if the Daily Show and Colbert Report are both steps down, then I'm not really sure how the media giant's staircases are built anymore. I guess sideways or maybe upside-down? Regardless, she's hot as hell.[Edited on June 23, 2008 at 8:56 AM. Reason : -]
