who do y'all go to for the dentist? i haven't been in YEARS, but apparently my ONE filling came out, and now i have a hole in my tooth and it's sore...i need to make an appointment ASAP, and i'd prefer to have recommendations from strangers than randomly picking one out of the phone book

Dr. Bruce Barker, up in North Raleigh. He's on Falls of the Neuse, just south of Strickland.

Dr. Robert Hoylehttp://www.hoyledentistry.com/index.html

I like Dr. Search.

I liked my experience with Sunrise Dental. They have a location in Raleigh & Chapel Hill. I've only been to the Chapel Hill location. But they've done my cleanings for a while and removed my wisdom teeth. In their tv commercial they mentioned they are comfortable giving sedatives for people going to the dentist. I'm not nervous going, but if they'll sedate you for a regular visit, I figured they would be shy about sedation/anesthesia for wisdom teeth removal which is what got me started going to the dentist regularly again.http://www.dinahvice-sunrisedental.com/(apparently a location in durham too)

^^ so do you still use freeman off wade?
6/17/2008 7:10:04 PM
I know who I can't recommend. The dentist on Lynn Road near the Raleigh Grande theater. I don't remember the name of the dentist there now, the old dentist retired. Anyway, she royally screwed up some fillings of mine. I had to get her fix the same filling three times and I still think it might be messed up but now I'm overseas so there's not a whole lot I can do about it.

Chris Martin, Edwards Mill Rd and Duraleigh Rd. Great guy, great dentist.I also just got somethign in the mail for a dentist up at briar creek. He looks 21, but all his staff are hot.
6/17/2008 7:56:03 PM
if you live near briar creek, thompson and thompson are great. i prefer the massaging dental chair, but you can have a plain one if you like. state grad too.

^ Have you seen their teeth here? Seriously though, a dentist will only work on you here in 15 minute increments because of how the insurance billing works. My friend had to go to the dentist for 5 appointments to get one filling done. And yes, she was left with a gaping hole in her tooth until it was completed. One of my boyfriend's students had been going to the dentist every Saturday since FEBRUARY to get a crown done and it's still not finished

I like Dr. Naran on Western blvd. (across from K-Mart) Been going there about 2 years and never had any problems. I could probably get you $20 off with a referral if you are interested.
6/17/2008 11:04:33 PM
Susan Lee, downtown. Everyone in the office is really nice.
6/17/2008 11:13:37 PM
^^ Dr. Naran over-analyzed my teeth and wanted about $2k in work done on tiny imperfections he thought were developing into cavities. I went back to my old dentist back home for a second opinion, and he saw nothing to be concerned about. I didn't go back to Dr. Naran. Of course, now I live in Durham and need another dentist.

i appreciate the suggestions...made an appointment tomorrow with freeman over near whole foods...here's hoping it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get the filling replaced
6/18/2008 12:09:01 PM
Apparently too late to help you, but I go to Dr. Patrick Roberson over on St. Mary's street, across from Broughton High School. Don't have a whole lot of experience yet (I've only seen him twice, he recently bought the practice from Dr. Howard Shareff, who was retiring) but I like him so far. Plus he's an NCSU grad.http://www.robersondental.com/index.php

if you're willing to go to Durham, check out Dr. Bolton at Willowdaile Family Dentistry - shes AWESOME - shes very sweet and funny and she does great work - I was born with a large gap in between my front two teeth (runs in my family) and she did cosmetic filling to fix them and omg it looks 1200000X better and if anything happens like I chip them, she fixes them for free
6/18/2008 3:11:08 PM
^^Another for Dana McCall.

Dr. Thomas Knight, I've gone a couple of times, pretty good guy and I don't really have any complaints.

A warning about Dr. Dinah Vice, she is REALLY expensive. It was a lot cheaper for my mom to go to the UNC faculty practice and everyone complains about how much they cost. I need to find someone in Raleigh.
6/25/2008 2:24:21 PM
anybody know of any good ones in cary?
6/25/2008 2:34:44 PM
it wasn't actually a filling that fell out, but a small piece of enamel that came off that was next to the filling (where the original cavity was)...it cost $138 out the door (no insurance) for the amalgam filling ($184 for composite)...that video above makes me wish i had gotten composite for the extra ~$50, though [Edited on June 25, 2008 at 2:52 PM. Reason : .]
6/25/2008 2:52:27 PM
Yup, we are about the only developed country in the world that still uses amalgam. I've got 3 of them I want removed. In other countries they have done studies that show that removing amalgams helps with a couple of chronic diseases, but here in the US we like to stick our head in the sand thanks to the retarded ADA.

since this is just an informative thread i thought i'd throw in some greensboro suggestionsespecially for people who are pain sensitive or freaked by the dentist. my old painkiller habit makes it so i choose to not take them anymore, so good doctors are important... cause if it hurts, i "cant" take percocetanyways...for checkups and cleanings and minor stuff like a cavity i would go to dr roe on church street.http://www.wellness.com/dir/2252249/dentist/nc/greensboro/roe-ronald-g-ddsfor the painful stuff like root canals and wisdom teeth and the surgery type stuff, i'd go to dr riggs. if you're scared of the dentist like me, this place is perfect. i have an INSANELY irrational fear of the dentist, plus the aforementioned inability to take pain meds... so when i went in and saw all the instruments, i made them put me under immediatelyi got my wisdom teeth out almost 10 years late, so i was in pretty severe pain by the time i finally went. and by the time the sedative wore off that night, it didn't hurt enough to even wish i could take pain meds. he rocks.http://www.oralimplantdocs.com/

i made an appointment for Monday at Britt (http://www.brittdental.com/). I'll let you know how it goes.
1/28/2009 11:17:46 AM
I went to Dr Britt and had a great experience. Very professional staff and Dr Britt seemed to know his stuff. I have to go back in for a repair on an old filling so we'll see how that goes. I hate going to the dentist, but this wasn't too bad.

Dr. Lane and associateshttp://www.lanedds.com/
2/3/2009 10:20:59 PM
Dr. Jane Holt in Cary is excellent...was going there for about 10 years before I moved...only knock is that she's a UNC alum (husbands a state grad though so she'll joke about that)
2/4/2009 7:15:24 AM
I second Dr. Martin. Or third or fourth or whatever. Also, if you need oral surgery I highly recommend Dr. Scott Hum.
