Anyone know of any small and accessible ponds that have a good number of fish in them around Raleigh? I live by Lake Johnson and that place is shit. I'm looking for a small pond.

There's a cool pond near Jordan Lake, called Horton's Pond. I remember a couple of years ago going fishing there with my bro and dad, caught more there than we did at Jordan Lake. They have a trail that goes around at least half the pond (I want to say the full pond, but I'm not sure), with plenty of fishing spots along the way.http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=cary+nc&ie=UTF8&ll=35.752573,-78.759565&spn=0.001519,0.00339&t=h&z=19

Preciate the responses y'all. Are these small ponds I can just walk up to? I have a boat, but would rather not hassle with getting the motor running again and getting it registered again.

In Lake Wheeler, you would be best with a boat obviously. But there is a pond (I forget the name) right be the park entrance. I think it is a buck or two to fish there. That is okay on foot. There are a few other places you can fish from shore at Wheeler.Shelley Lake is decent from shore. I don't think they allow motorized boats there anyway. There was a spot I fished there a long time ago (like high school days around 1998-2000) that had a bunch of submerged trees, but a good walk away from the parking lots.

If you are new to the area or fishing in general, use Google Earth or satellite Maps to find ponds near your house. Make sure they are open to the public and that you have a valid license of course.I have found a couple public ponds near my house (CO) through Google Earth, and no one has been to either in a long time. It's pretty fun trying to figure out what's in there by using different baits/lures.
