Figured I might as well start one of these, cuz I have a question for you all:Do you think we'll be seeing an updated Ipod Classic at WWDC?
6/6/2008 5:07:26 PM
Who cares, the 3G iPhone is going prime time!all the iPods, I think are going to the waste side, moving towards the Touch and iPhone's.i think I may actually get one now that AT&T is rumored to subsidize $200 of them.
6/6/2008 5:10:29 PM
no. why would they? I doubt there will be any major changes to the Classic any more, except maybe the occasional storage increase. The Classic is a legacy product - they'll produce it as long as people are buying, but they won't put any more R&D into it. The future is all about the iPhone and iPod Touch, and incremental updates to the Shuffle and Nano. here are my predictions (that i previously wrote out for a co-worker)1) A 3G iPhone will almost certainly be released. Other rumored changes are - black plastic case instead of aluminum, thinner and shorter but same size screen, GPS, more storage, 2 cameras (one on the front for video conferencing). Maybe an EDGE-only version for cheaperhttp://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/06/06/iphone-rumor-roundup-iii-attack-of-the-phonesAlso for the phone, iPhone 2.0 software will be released. This will include the App Store and the SDK for 3rd party apps. Developers have been building apps for a couple months using a Beta SDK. Also in then new software will be more enterprise features like full Exchange support.2) Some kind of official split between "OS X Leopard (Computer)" and "OS X iPhone (Mobile)". Up until now, Apple continues to claim that the iPhone runs the full OS, which is obviously not true. So they may officially split the OS into different platforms to get better specalized with eachhttp://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/06/05/apples_os_x_iphone_leopard_banners_show_os_split_pre_wwdc.html3) "50% chance" a new kind of tablet, 4" or 7"http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/06/05/larger_apple_multi_touch_devices_move_beyond_prototype_stage.html4) They will announce and preview OS X 10.6, "Snow Leopard", which will be released next January. The code name, "Snow Leopard", confirms that this will not be a huge change from 10.5, Leopard, but instead will be a stability and speed release, and they might also strip out the old PowerPC code and older APIs, making it the first 64-bit only, Intel-only releasehttp://www.tuaw.com/2008/06/03/rumor-mac-os-x-10-6-to-debut-at-wwdc-08/http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/06/04/mac-os-x-10-6-code-named-snow-leopard-may-be-pure-cocoa5) They've had a service called .Mac for many years. It's basically an online account with email, syncronization services, backup services, web hosting, etc, for $99/year. When it came out in 2001, it was a really good deal, but it has stagnated since then and is way out of date as far as features and pricing, when compared to services from Google, MS, Yahoo, etc. So they're rebranding into something called MobleMe with lots of new features and price cuts and stuff.http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/05/30/apples-mac-service-may-become-mobile-mehttp://www.tuaw.com/2008/05/30/mobile-me-the-new-name-of-mac/I'm banking on #1, 2 and 5 as 95%, 4 as 70%, and 3 as 25%.

doesnt appear as if the new iPhones will be released today :-(i think that the rumor sites would be reporting shipments of boxes to be opened today, but nothing but one single box thats in a safe.
6/9/2008 11:52:31 AM
I thought the rumor was that it would be sort of tease-released... ready for order, but won't ship, or be purchasable in person just yet.
6/9/2008 11:56:39 AM

Ah! Well I'm feeling that... I've got another year left using this vzw motorola krzr...I'm most frustrated by the battery life depletion that was extremely quick. The extended battery does the job, but now it's about 150% of the initial thickness.Lame.

6/9/2008 12:29:09 PM
those shipments could be anything for Apple, keep that in mind, though they more than like are a pile of iphones

6/9/2008 2:09:49 PM
The open-source community will love this:
6/9/2008 2:12:08 PM
I'm confused. Why would they charge for free apps in the first place? Doesn't free mean no charge?
6/9/2008 2:13:18 PM
This is the Developers Conference. So it's free to make & share apps, so long as they're free. (Like Creative Commons Licensing)
