For some reason whenever i am stopped and just ideling in my 97 Honda Civic my AC cuts off. Whenever i am moving it runs fine but once i come to a stand still i always hear it switch on and off then after a couple seconds it gives up and turns off. I can see it on the tach also as it oscillates 100-200 rpm. At first i though it was the coolant but i recently have flushed my radiator and added new coolant and this does not seem to have solved it.Gets kind of annoying when i start baking out in my car waiting at the long stop lights aka western and gorman.

first thing i would check is condenser fan operation

what turns off? does teh fan keep blowing? are you sure youre not just hearing/feeling the normal cycling of the compressor?

hondas dont have enough torque at idle to get significant cooling from a r-134a compressorwith it 90+ with the humidity outside you will be lucky to get anything at idle

its probably getting too hot without airflow and the high limit is kicking it out, make sure both cooling fans are working

are you sure you dont hear the clutch kicking on and off. does the air just get hot when you are stopped.the coolant is a hole different ball game. has nothing to do with the a/c
