Yep, went out yesterday morning to my car's window sitting on the ground. Stole the head unit. Went through everything in the car but didn't take anything else.Left the subs. The funny part, is that the HU has a lock out code that I set. If the HU ever looses power, that code has to be put in when it is turned on, or it will just turn off again.[Edited on June 5, 2008 at 9:48 AM. Reason : .]

That really sucks man. I had my truck broken into last summer over a $40 pair of Nike's. They didn't take my cell phone, sunglasses, checkbook, or even diploma. I left it in my truck for a few days. The SBI sucks btw. Unless you think you have some hard evidence, might as well not file a report.
6/5/2008 7:12:46 PM
Well...The HU was a Kenwood Excelon 8019 w/ ipod adaptor. They took the remote for it as well. Also, if anyone is trying to figure out why their 8019 won't stay on, probably also mine/ stolen. The SBI comes out if there is a body. The CCBI comes out for things like my car.BTW, the stupid fuck who broke into my car left their finger prints when the lifted the window out.+1 for tint.
6/5/2008 7:46:31 PM
That sucks. Do you have an alarm?[Edited on June 5, 2008 at 8:50 PM. Reason : l]
6/5/2008 8:50:26 PM
I have a factory alarm. Working on a nice alarm system as we speak, haggling is fun.
6/5/2008 9:11:44 PM
6/5/2008 9:57:54 PM
regardless.. the car is looking good...
6/5/2008 10:06:02 PM
Damn man, that sucks.Since you have such a nice ass speaker system, are you going to integrate that into your alarm? My friend has an alarm in his truck that, if you don't disarm it quickly enough (or break into the truck, or bump it, or look at it funny) it blasts a certain frequency out the speakers at such a volume that it can be heard for quite a few blocks, and it's also extremely annoying and physically painful to hear. At the very least they would give up after they hit the window and were welcomed with ear-splitting ass-raping noise. If the brown noise was a real thing, you could set it to that, but... Haha, that would be funny as fuck.

^^ The last time his car got broken into the thief did that. It's not all sunshine. :/[Edited on June 6, 2008 at 2:45 PM. Reason : Although it is good he didn't damage anything else in the car.]
6/6/2008 2:45:08 PM
yeah, if someone were to sit down and think about being a thief... it's getting ahold of something of value the quickest and easiest - having something bolted in the dash would deter a thief... although that still doesnt stop the obligatory busted window and tool marks on the dash... or the possibility of the unit being damaged
6/6/2008 3:33:44 PM
RPD should have a bait car program. As many cars as are getting broken in to lately it would definitely pay off. All they would need is a big ass GPS plugged in that you could see the light from in the dark. They would be locking up the bastards left and right.
6/6/2008 3:56:36 PM
2 way paging alarm with window sensors and a gun by the bed ftw. snipe them bitches while they're trying to break in.^ haha. i love that show. I'm sure we can all rig something up and do this. [Edited on June 6, 2008 at 4:52 PM. Reason : ]
6/6/2008 4:51:21 PM
What if you hid a stun gun down in the car somewhere and then ran wires from the contacts up to your GPS. Then rig it so that as soon as the GPS was pulled on the current would start firing. Then they would be waiting on the ground for you when you came out.
6/6/2008 5:07:29 PM
It is illegal to booby-trap your car. It also opens you up for law suit and injury liability. It turns out that CCBI scratched the crap out of my car when they dusted for prints. There are scratches on the A pillar, B pillar, above the rain channel, and below the window.I get to talk to them later tonight.
6/6/2008 8:29:51 PM
>_<Fuck that shit. How'd they scratch it? They use steel wool to apply the powder that reveals the fingerprints?
6/6/2008 9:33:47 PM
They use a graphite powerder that is magnetic for brushing. The magnet used to hold the powerder as they drag it has a metal colar that they were dragging accross the paint. My GF and I both looked at eachother, like what the hell, when he was dusting and we heard the noise. I had most of the scratches covered with tape from covering the window so I didn't see them till today.

6/6/2008 9:38:49 PM
also the local substation commander will eventually increase patrol units in the area if enough reports are coming in.
6/6/2008 9:40:07 PM
we have had 10 break-ins in the last 3 weeks.
6/6/2008 9:41:31 PM
then you should be seeing more cops riding through in the early early morning.
6/6/2008 9:46:08 PM
all those complexes out there have been prime targets for smash and grabs since they started popping up 10 years ago. i remember when i lived out there if there wasn't at least one or two break ins a week, something was wrong. they even had two shp officers that lived there for free in exchange for providing "security". both of them were cool guys, but they didn't really do anything unless something major happened. i wouldn't expect anything to change now. they might put more patrol cars in the area, but it's for controlling parties, etc. not any real crime. college kids and renters in general aren't high on the list of priorities when it comes to requests like that.
6/6/2008 9:57:30 PM
spotting! [Edited on June 6, 2008 at 10:27 PM. Reason : sorry to hear ab the break in btw ]

6/8/2008 2:49:18 PM
A lot of effort went into that window taping job. Nice. The message is a nice touch. This is one of those huge apartment complexes with lots of big apartment blocks (3-4 stories tall) and shit tons of parking spaces inbetween, right? I don't see how those places could be secure without gated entrances and nightly patrols.
