It is finally coming, about 8 years too late Better late than never! All car companies will be required to have a 35 mpg average by 2020. So seems like the big 3 German makers will really escalate the hp war in the years to come to go out with a bang before they are forced to produce smaller engines. Already Audi is soon moving from V8s in the S4 and S5 to forced induction V6s. But at the same time, they are making the 580 hp RS6, and soon coming out with a 525 hp R8 V10.OK, back to the M7:

Geezzz, BMW is really starting to crank out models nowSo the question is when FI will start breaking into other M cars? Seems like the M division wanted to stay N/A as long as possible, but I guess its finally given inTurbo M3 coming soon?[Edited on June 4, 2008 at 11:23 PM. Reason : .]

While I sadly agree about the piggish new BMW in comparison to those of old, BMW still tends to make cars lighter than the ones they're competing against. Compare the 7 series w/the S class for example...Ahmet
6/5/2008 10:46:31 AM
honestly if I'm buying a car of this size its because of luxury and comfort. The power is a plus but it doesn't need to be lapping anyone at the track because it will never see a track day. So it doesn't matter how heavy it is as long as it feels powerful and has all the bells and whistles.
6/5/2008 10:55:25 AM
BMW sure does love going back on their word. When Mercedes started supercharging and turbocharging all their AMG engines BMW said they'd never go to FI, saying they prefer to stay N/A to keep drivetrain components lighter as well as have a more linear power flow. They also said they'd never follow Mercedes and make an "M" version of every model they have, that it'd only be applied to the most sporting models they have (also implied there wouldn't be an M version of the 7 series). I guess they got tired of Alphina getting the spotlight for the B7. I don't realistically see an M7 version of the current 7 Series happening. The model is nearing the end of its production run, and thank God for that. Its the ugliest car that BMW's ever made.
6/5/2008 12:06:12 PM
tis pretty ugly
6/5/2008 12:11:53 PM
^^the newest revisions of the 7 series make it a really hot car. The taillights and headlights have changed drastically enough to make it good.

^sorry I didn't check that link (work copmuter is slow). I was mostly just replying to your posting of that photoshopped 7 Series. With the new 7 Series the styling can only get better! Hopefully it'll look like their recent 4 door concept sedan thats been making the rounds at auto shows for over a year.[Edited on June 5, 2008 at 6:30 PM. Reason : k]

You guys are stupid........that is a E65 in the picture, someone just hacked on the M7 front tag. I by no means know all.......but I've yet to hear about a M7. I haven't heard of a TT V12 either.......doesn't mean any of those won't happen, I just haven't heard of it. I think think this post is hilarious, especially since its all speculation anyways.......and you guys are already crying. It makes me feel like I am reading replies on a BMW board. And FWIW, the F01 is so hush hush..........I doubt you will see a real picture of it until just a couple weeks before its released in Germany.....

^^i agree the only thing ive heard about the damn F01 is that its going to have a completely new bus system, big whoopthe idea of an M7 is a bit silly to me although i wouldnt put it past them at all, i just dont think it would sell, kind of like the 7-series individuals, ive seen one in person and only one. not to say they werent sold more widely somewhere else but if they were so popular they'd still be made, but you get my point.and finally:

I was going to make a larger post to point out all of the fucking idiots in this thread, but I remembered this is TWW.
6/6/2008 12:22:36 AM
^^yeah wtf is a 7 Series individual, lol.^true.
6/6/2008 12:38:47 AM
individual means you can specify exterior and interior colors other than what is offered normally.for example you can order a dakar yellow M5. newer M3 and M5 do not have individual program available anymore, but in past they did (talking about US, in europe it is still available). bmw now offers it on new 7 series for US buyers.in europe they also offer individual program for new 3-series with stunning color combos. you can see what colors they offer.http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicles/3series/coupe_individual/09_2007/visualizer.htmlin past it used be a $2000 option. well worth it as people are now paying big money for rare colored E46 M3 in dakar yellow, techno violet, estoril blue...etc...which were normally E36 M3 colors. last week on ebay there was dakar yellow E39 M5. probably the only one in world. it was sold almost instantly.[Edited on June 6, 2008 at 1:00 AM. ^european delivery is not the same as individual program. euro delivery simply means you order a car from US, but pick it up in germany. you get two weeks and temp insurance to enjoy your ride while vacationing simultaneously. individual program at this point for 3-series and M-cars is only available in europe, meaning you have to order a car from european dealer. at this point, 7-series is the only series being offered with individual program in US.[Edited on June 6, 2008 at 11:37 AM. 6/6/2008 4:18:45 PM
hahahaha... pwnt.next time, read. if you need lessons, i will be happy to oblige, at a cost of course
6/6/2008 6:28:14 PM
^^you should put down your outdated car and driver and pick up a book on the English language. Maybe then you can form coherent sentences.
6/6/2008 7:33:45 PM
actually to clarify on the individual program, it was only offered on the 7 series, basically you started with a 760Li and it had an entirely different paint scheme and the interior was a color you couldnt get in anything else, also all the trim was this high gloss piano-black type color and was really quite nice.and it was a 10,000 dollar option, not 2...which was my point on why they didnt sell many and i heard the program had been disconinued but the one sold here in gso a week ago was a brand new car. not to say it wasnt sitting for a while somewhere, but anyhow the car cost 151k and it had every option you could buyso the individuals werent so much just ordering a different color, its a whole car facelift.
6/6/2008 7:34:24 PM
^i said it USED to be $2000. it makes sense that it is more now. individual program doesn't change anything on chassis, no facelift or anything like that. it is always special order exterior/interior color only. everything else is the same. are you maybe speaking of alpina 7 series cars ...because those cars are different (lip, spoilers etc) than regular 7 series?[Edited on June 6, 2008 at 10:44 PM. ^^so basically they're trying to copy Porsche.
6/7/2008 1:04:20 AM
bmw had individual program for like 15 years. i doubt they are copying anyone.
6/7/2008 1:06:19 AM
eh. Pretty sure Porsche has been doing it longer. Not that it matters. At least Porsche never developed anything as hideous as whatever was touched by the pen of Bangle.
6/7/2008 2:35:54 AM
bangle should be hanged.

Here is a teaser image revealed by BMW at some golf tournament. On top is the BMW Concept CS's front for comparison. Damn that mug looks so much better than the current model's!
7/1/2008 3:44:57 PM
didn't read the threadcool i guess, but not sure i see the point in a high performance 7-series.
7/1/2008 8:47:20 PM
^^thats probably the f01 slated to come out in august/september
7/1/2008 10:02:11 PM
^ huh? the one in black is the new 7 series. read underneath the picture. that's a bmw ad. it will be revealed on the 7/7.the one in blue is the BMW Concept CS that was shown a year ago ( message_topic.aspx?topic=473213 ). It will be produced as an 8 series in the next year or so.what's the "f01"?^^ just like there is really no point in a high performance S-Class or Audi A8.[Edited on July 2, 2008 at 3:31 AM. yeah, i just don't get it. the regular versions are more than adequate--who buys an ENORMOUS luxury cruiser like that with the intention of driving it like a sports car (aside from the fact that if you can afford one, you can probably afford a weekend toy to have fun in).
7/2/2008 3:45:47 AM
Why in god's name do you need a TT V12 in that thing. It's just gonna melt the tires to the road when you push the gas pedal, shit even with traction control. Mildly retarded IMO. Pisses me off for some reason. Sure it sounds cool to say that, but I know of many other ways to get the speed and power to the road other than what they are doing, course the damn thing is heavy though...forgot about that
7/2/2008 9:08:47 AM
^^Well Duke, a lot of AMG owners like being able to smoke 99% of the cars on the road on a daily basis, haha.^Mercedes has had a TT V12 for the last 4 years. Apparently BMW wants a piece of the pie.
7/2/2008 2:46:02 PM
^^^Duke, the answer should be pretty obvious. Its because some people (me included) really can't drive anything that doesn't have some power to it and driving around a weekend sports car all week doesn't make much sense...so why not have a luxury sedan that drives like a weekend sports car?I mean if I owned a GT3 and some luxury base model sedan...which do you think I would drive all week?
7/2/2008 6:02:34 PM
why not a luxury sedan, and a sports car.it would be cheaper then that thing
7/2/2008 6:11:47 PM
^^ what i'm saying is that the regular one is no slouch. and making a 7-series drive like a sports car is impossible. there is simply no way to kill two birds with one stone like you're talking about.
7/2/2008 7:53:47 PM
I'd die of happiness if BMW made all of their motors turbo'd. They are alot less complex. So in that aspect........to answer "why would they TT a V12?"..........cost. There is an absurd amount of technology into the N/A motors.......when they can just use the KISS method and boost it.
7/2/2008 10:08:26 PM
True that, and you get a lot more torque to boot.
