I just bought an 08 TRD 5.7 Tundra 4x4 cheaper than you can buy a new Tacoma for, apparently the Tacoma is Toyota's flagship truck and they sell the crap out of them. But you didnt steal shit, they always get dat money
6/3/2008 10:31:19 PM
I feel like I got a good deal because the retail value on the nada website for the truck is 22,800
6/3/2008 10:36:47 PM

6/3/2008 10:37:34 PM

You can't seriously think a toyota isn't a real truck...pound for pound they are one of the toughest on the market, and have been for almost 30 years nowand yes, that is a good deal, especially from a dealer[Edited on June 3, 2008 at 10:59 PM. Reason : .]

6/5/2008 12:20:33 AM
shit, my Evo hardly ever turned in that good of mileage.(the Ram barely does half that, though)
6/5/2008 12:23:40 AM
oh its definitely high er than I am used to, but its no matrix or yaris. the 4.0 v6 is a truck motor no doubt, dont expect it to pull like a supra even with the si

well no shit, i'm not saying they lost money, but i'm in no position to fuck a lazy seller as hard as a dealer can in a trade-in.i'm saying that between my BMW and my Evo, I made $3500 profit, minus what I spent on taxes to register them (which puts me only a little in the black, but still--that means I drove for the 2 years I owned those two cars for several hundred dollars less than the price of insurance, fuel/oil/tires, and interest on the loans).i made $2000 on my S2000 over a 2 year period before that, too, but I bought that one from a private seller.
6/6/2008 12:56:05 AM
1500 bux off higher end cars isnt really anything to brag about. with small money like that. the person bought it cause it was there at the time. now if you would have made 3k-6k(per car) off the cars then that would be another story.you see cars all day long go for different prices. whats 1500 if you are already gonna spend 23k on a used car.
6/6/2008 1:11:21 AM
dude, if you can just break even, you're doing really good.buying for 16k and selling for 19k is a damned awesome deal (i sold it for basically KBB...i just got a great deal buying). then bought the Evo for 26k with 7k miles, drove it for a year and a half, sold it with 25k miles for 26.5k. the whole point is that there ARE great deals to be found out there from dealers every now and then.

If you buy an old car its really easy to make money reselling. The problem is you drive an old car.....Duke obviously did better with something that doesnt look 10+ years old.Congrats
6/6/2008 8:10:08 AM
^^ made $3500 total off the 2 cars I bought from dealers
6/6/2008 9:13:44 AM
^^agreed
6/6/2008 7:09:08 PM
FYI, the values for trucks and SUV's have dropped by nearly 50% in the last 6 months. So no, you didn't get a steal, you bought a car during a period when the market is crashing for those vehicles. And that Tacoma will probably be selling for 12k by christmas, because its only going to get worse. In other news, the value of my Saturn has risen to more than I bought it for 5 years ago with 80k less miles on it. HURRAH GAS PRICES

okay, i can't stand it anymore after watching this thread. doesn't anyone else see (besides joel) how this is a PRIME example of why dealerships are laughing all the way to the bank with this gas price scaremongering? let me break it down:1. someone buys a new tacoma. times are good, gas is cheap, and toyota trucks are selling like hotcakes. buyer loses, dealership wins.2. here we are in 2008. gas prices have gone up, and the market floods with low mpg vehicles. high mpg vehicles are the rage. this poor sap takes a beating on his trade in, and overpays for a new prius or civic or wtf ever. buyer loses, dealership wins.3. along comes the op, thinking he's crafty and will score a sweet deal on a truck in these times of near bankruptcy (lol) for dealers. since he's still stuck on 2006 used vehicle values, he thinks he's gotten an awesome deal. dealership wins, buyer loses. AGAIN.[Edited on June 6, 2008 at 10:45 PM. Reason : don't forget suv/truck trends have been falling from their peak well before gas prices skyrocketed ][Edited on June 6, 2008 at 11:02 PM. sooooo say theres a 79 toyo on nc4x4 36's/5.71/detroit/welded/hi-steer/20r/4spd/bobbed lwb bedwhats the bottom dollar on that (whoever has the tj on 36's is in the thread)
6/7/2008 12:15:59 AM
^ Wouldn't something like that be likely to fetch a higher dollar since it's being advertised on a 4x4 forum? I mean, if it was on craigslist that's different, but those guys live for offroading and drinking beers brah. It might have a slight effect on devaluing the truck, but somebody on there will say "shit that's the highest offer so far? I'll give him more than that" if you're trying to snag a deal. That's just a guess.Don't mind me, I'm high on a lack of water.
6/7/2008 12:43:27 AM
^^it's worth his asking price imo. anything less than that is a great deal.^yeah, things like that that have been heavily modified are a little harder to value. whole different ballgame than buying/selling a "normal" vehicle.

ah, I'd say when you can see an 07 escalade with 2-k miles go thru statesville this week and sell for 30k ( three months ago around went for 40k), the bottom for large SUVs is a little soft in North Carolina.50% drop is a trade in offer is a great deal for the dealer, and not a very good reflection of the market value (trade in offers are too complicated to really reflect the true vehicle worth)Not to say that trucks/suvs aren't still selling at all.btw. ^who the fuck cares but you that you work at a dealer^referring to the topic of this thread, the dealer still paid less for it than you bought it for, but it's nice to find a ride where they thumped the shit on someone with the trade in and not you, i guess[Edited on June 12, 2008 at 10:53 PM.
