Okay, I've never owned a camcorder, so I purchased one a few days ago. A Canon ZR850. I've only used my Nikon digital camera, and would transfer the photos to my computer using a usb cable. I guess I made a mistake in thinking I could transfer video from my new camcorder to my laptop using a usb cable, but apparently I have to use a DV cable (firewire). So my question is...my laptop is pretty old (like five years), but still works well so I don't plan on getting a new computer. It's an Inspiron 2600. It has a slot on the left side, and i'm assuming that's where I can plug in a card that a firewire cable would then be plugged into? Would I be able to just go to an electronics store and purchase the proper card and firewire cable? Do most firewire cables fit different devices? I'm just totally new to this stuff because i've always used the simple usb transfer method. Thanks!
