The thin film resistor displays are allegedly better.I just got my new laptop and this display is miserable. I mean awful. When I drag a window, I can't read what's in it while it's moving due to the motion blur. It's also really blue, but I understand certain display types use different default phosphors that are easily customized. On my old laptop, which had a 1600 x 1200 native rez, the quality was flawless and smooth. That was an IBM r50p.Did they put the wrong display on or something? This sucks. It's a Lenovo T61p.

whoa, something is wrong, horribly wrong...

I mean, if nothing is moving, then everything is razor sharp and fine (as long as I turn off that godawful ClearType).DVD playback is abysmal using both WinDVD and PowerDVD. The quality is probably the worst I've ever seen on any display, regardless of size, resolution, or age. But I suppose that could be the software or the drive.3D gaming seems ok. Gonna install Morrowind after work and check it out.On a side note, Vista is quite possibly the worst piece of coding ever done. And this is coming from a mac-hating Microsoft fanboy.

agreed about vista, i refuse to use it as much as possible, it makes my gf's laptop crawl (newish t60)

arent they supposed to be better in bright background lighting?

you need to make sure you have the correct drivers installed, and you have the OS displaying at the native resolution.

Yeah sorry typo. Transistor. The 'top arrived at my door, I took it out of the box. It did some self-configuring, and then was ready for use. I highly doubt it doesn't come preloaded with the right driver. Actually, I know it.

haha, the whole time I was writing my ass-hole reply, I just knew I would probably miss-spell something, HAHA

^ I've seen plenty of panels where text looks worse with clear type turned on.
5/30/2008 4:36:10 PM
i, personally, adore cleartype...it's necessary on all 7 of the monitors i use on a regular basis
5/30/2008 4:47:33 PM
same here you seriously get motion blur?

It's a lot clearer with ClearType off. I thought ClearType was to smooth out text when you're putting out a rez that is not the panel's native rez. That's not the case here. It's native 1680 x 1050, and that's what I'm running, so it looks flawless with ClearType off.

its actually the exact opposite. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ClearType

I guess I didn't explain clearly enough. That wiki says

aa typically makes everything better in most cases?

I see what you're saying. It's particularly apparent looking at those large lower case As. Guess I just prefer that.
