Terrorist Sympathizer

Are we seriously going to bring up a keffiyeh in a Dunkin' Donuts commercial as a sign that liberal celebrities support Teh Terror without also mentioning John McCain's daughter wearing a keffiyeh on the campaign trail? http://gawker.com/5003288/mccain-daughter-dons-islamic-terror-scarfNeither incident is worthy of press, they both can be chalked up to poor taste and a resurgence in 1980's fashion; they're both nonissues and political nonstarters. Who cares, really? There are celebrities with all kinds of views, and we can criticize some of them if we feel like rising to the challenge of being internet toolbags, but I'm going to be the last person to criticize someone for wearing a scarf in a commercial advertising a frozen beverage.

Throw her to the wolves! I really hope lots of Republicans/conservatives latch on to this issue so they'll have to admit they appreciate political correctness too.[Edited on May 27, 2008 at 2:44 AM. Reason : sss]

One, it's Michelle Malkin raising a battle cry here (there's some points for credibility), and two, do you even think these celebretards know what a keffiyeh even is?[Edited on May 27, 2008 at 2:45 AM. Reason : .]

I think it's actually kind of amazing how communist propoganda has been absorbed into American culture as pop art. I mean, you could buy Mao jackets & hats at target last winter for crying out loud (now your out-of-fashion ass can only find them at Plato's Closet)! Not that I'm complaining really. I mean, I have to admit that a lot of that stuff looks really fucking cool. Does anyone else remember that Commie Bar that Wayne and Garth Visited in Waynes World II (was that the one)? That thing was righteous! I would totally drink there....or at the People's Republik in Cambridge. But I can still understand why people would be offended. Millions upon millions of people died as a result Communist governments in China and the former Soviet Union. That stuff tends to stick with you. No matter how cool looking the posters were. How does keffiyeh equal terrorist? That's kind of like saying sneakers equal democracy.
5/27/2008 8:40:35 AM

Here's about the only way the keffiyeh is considered a "terrorist symbol":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keffiyeh#Palestinian_national_symbolBut that's really, really stretching it. Next thing you know, they'll be going after Shriners for wearing the Fez! (Terrorists in miniature cars! Oh gnoes!)//Edit:Or perhaps this:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keffiyeh#Symbol_of_Palestinian_solidarity.3FBut that would have to assume both that the item in question was actually associated with Palestine, and not some stupid new fashion trend:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keffiyeh#Fashion_trend[Edited on May 27, 2008 at 12:38 PM.
