Just off the top, I wouldn't pay any more than 2k for that car. (Thats including new engine, installation, work). I assume its not working, and you dont know what else could be faulty or have failed when the engine went.

Already had it in the garage.... Should be a simple swap- (mechanics words from dealer)-

Considering private party and cost to repair I was thinking $1500.... Car only has 100k on tranny/body and with a new motor with only 81k it should easily be a $3500-4500 car.... in which case someone could flip a profit pretty easy (IMO)

a couple. Personally I wouldnt even purchase this car. Is it not unreasonable to think that even if he buys the 'car' for 500, then the engine for another 675 (not including shipping) that he may accrue another 500 in installation/maitenance? Not that I claim to know the exact market value of all things, but I would be wary if I were the buyer.'

^^^^Of course the new motor means nothing in regards to value... I was a dealer when in NY- Of course we had a outside garage who did all of my work...

I guess heres how I am breaking it down...and we'll use KBB private party just as a starting point.

KBB PP- $4500

New motor- $675

Install/work- $700 (we'll shoot high just to play safe)


Total parts/labor- $1375

Subtracted from Private Value (not dealer retail)- $3125

If i sell car for $1500

Profit margin would be $1625 (in someone else pocket)

$1,000 plus $1,500 (high) for engine and labor, sell the next day for $3,500. I wonder why so many people would be interested???

I think most people on TWW need cars that work when they pick them up.

I know some people on here would fix them up, but they all seem to be shrewd enough that they are able to buy working cars and turn them around for a profit simply by selling them to a different market.

agreed there are cars to be flipped but for a far less margin of profit-

I mean hell- To someone on here...

$1000 car+ $450 new engine + 1 days work = almost a $3000 profit selling on CL


Either way- Still would have preferred to have sold it here- Still contemplating if I should mark the price up to $1500 on CL and see what response i get-
