Just put new headlights on and they are aimed right in front of my car. I cannot see like 40 feet in front of me. Any tips on how to do this myself or is this something I want to take to an inspection place and have done right (I know they need to be close to a certain adjustment to be legal)?

you need a level area such as a garage and a wall.Drive up until you are about an inch from the wall. Mark with tape opposite the center of your headlights and also the centerline of the car. Back straight up until the fronts of the headlamps are 25' from the wall. Adjust your headlamps using these guides. I'm sure you can find a chart somewhere on the net. If not, thumb through any Haynes manualhope this helps.
