on a broken light bulb, that's still in the housing, if only the screw cap came off? seems like it'd only work if there's broken glass to grab a hold of

it's a ceiling track light can, and to say it's awkward is putting it lightly

im standing on my kitchen table and can barely reach.

poo

what would you do?

and yes, im a gay for having track lighting

and no, just b/c im an ee doesn't mean i have any experience with this shit, don't be dumb

[Edited on May 19, 2008 at 8:09 PM. Reason : i'd have to go to the store to get a potato, so i havent tried it yet]

you can test to see if a circuit is live with a squirt gun

why flip breakers blindly when you can short the circuit and have it trip for you?

also - how in hell did you break a recessed bulb when you can't reach it?

go borrow a ladder first, jerry is destined to have one

and i dont think the potato thing works kiddo (my stapdad says it works only if the potato is soft and you knocked all the glass off first so that its flush with the metal)

yeah i should have shorted it

turns out i flipped the breaker for my tv/cable box and it erased my dvr memory and settings

ha

anyways, got it fixed, with the breaker off and then needle nose in, expanded as far as possible and turning counter clockwise

crisis averted

[Edited on May 19, 2008 at 8:37 PM. Reason : ^^over tightened a very old bulb putting it in]

I've tried this potato theory, didn't work like on tv but it's true it doesn't do anything if the potato's too hard.....It got the glass out for me but I was left with chunks of potato to clean

^^ I would think the hard tater would work if the glass is thicker, but for some of the lighter glass bulbs I think the glass will crumble if it's too hard

Just turn the damn switch off. No need to turn off the entire circuit.

As long as no one walks into the room while you have your fingers in there and unknowingly turns the power back on.

WTF, disconnecting the power source shouldn't erase anything. You've got a fucked up box.
