so ive got a rear camera mount.ive got a bar that runs across the rear upper seat belt bolts. pretty sturdy. and ive got my camera mounted to that with your typical adjustable camera mount. which is pretty sturdy also.the only problem is that we do rallyX events and damn it gets bumpy. ive got a few ideas that i want to try, but im just looking for more ideas/tricks on how to stabilize the camera so its not so damn shaky. i know its not gonna be perfect. but i might get sick looking at it. haha.my mount is the thing circled in yellow.

you could fab up something like this:its called a steadicamobviously you dont need something that big but it would be cool if you could get it to work on the scale you need

i've already got the mount. the picture thats in my original post is the actual mount, with suction that i have.but im not using the suction part, im using a bar that goes across the rear from seatbelt bolt to seatbelt bolt.the problem i have is its "stiff" so you see every vibration. big time.i wanna rig up some sort of spring action. hmmm

Pop the head off g0

add a pillow to the bar zoom all the way out + wide angle lens

are you just clipping in a DV Camera to that mount?Or are you using a lipstick / barrel cam?If its the latter, that is your problem. Regular camcorders weigh WAY too much. You either need to massive stiffen it up to the mount (add another mount point somewhere to triangulate the camera points in another direction) or you need to get a much lighter barrel cam + central recording box.You don't want a steadycam setup in a car, it would look weird as hell.

if you can see any part of the interior or exterior of the car in your camera, you want as rigid mounts as you can make as ^ said or it will ook oddhowever, if all you can see is the oad ahead of you, stabilizing (at least internal optical) is not a bad idea

Also FYI, those stabilizing rigs are heavy as hell, and i doubt one would be safe to put inside a race vehicle

if you mount it correctly with backup safety straps, you would be fine if it was in the back seatWRC has cameras in the car all the time a steadicam system would work for a dv camera if he had the right spring constant

is the camera i am using. and its just one mount point.

^^they sure as hell dont have steadycams. they are all rigid mount barrel cameras.^yeah you just need to buy another mount and rig it to connect to the camera somehow. pretty much any way you connect it should improve rigidity 10x, but if you can hook a second mount perpendicular to the current one will probably help the most.

so this is pretty much my setup. i have maybe 8 inches or so behind the camera (i think around 8). the bar runs across the top of the rear seats.that blue bar is the bar that goes from the upper seat belt bolts to the other[Edited on May 19, 2008 at 10:22 PM. Reason : ]

bolt an anchor plate to the roof and put in another mount that way. just need 2 points of contact and it should be good
5/19/2008 10:28:33 PM
that could work. i cant remember what is right above, the rear windshield, or the roof.either way. i can try to rig something up.heck, i can probably have more than one. the car is just a beater. we were gonna cut the roof for a roof scoop, but the scoop flew off on the way home yesterday
5/19/2008 10:32:16 PM
how bout some triangulated shock absorbers
5/19/2008 10:33:33 PM
i was thinking something like this from 2 other sides, 3 points of contact... the bottom is screwed in, so from the top 2 sided it will just be pressure, cuz i cant drill/screw into the top of the camera without screwing something up [Edited on May 19, 2008 at 10:46 PM. Reason : ]
