5/16/2008 9:14:12 AM
have felt like i would before, but never actually puked
5/16/2008 9:14:52 AM
i don't think heartburn causes vomiting, maybe it's acid reflux?
5/16/2008 9:15:36 AM
^ yes
5/16/2008 9:17:06 AM
either way its hurts like a motherfucker. i just had a handful of tums. it is getting a little better but still uncomfortable
5/16/2008 9:37:47 AM
I think I have had heartburn twice in my life.
5/16/2008 9:39:12 AM
I thought heartburn and acid reflux were the same thing
5/16/2008 9:50:11 AM

5/16/2008 9:52:14 AM

5/16/2008 12:03:52 PM

5/16/2008 12:05:23 PM
Prilosec is my drug of choice. But it takes about a week for that shit to get in your system.
5/16/2008 12:05:48 PM
<3 prilosec. took bad my insurance lapsed from now till the beginning of june and i ran out yesterday i foresee puking/nausea/weight loss within 5 days.
5/16/2008 12:55:21 PM
just go get the OTC version from walmart
5/16/2008 12:56:40 PM
probably going to have to. but they don't work nearly as well for me. fortunately there's a generic version of prilosec now, so i can get a prescription (my prilosec rx has 0 refills left anyway) for it for next month.[Edited on May 16, 2008 at 12:59 PM. Reason : ]
5/16/2008 12:59:22 PM
yeah kitty b, i used to get it so bad i'd wake up and puke every night. like it's a pain that is so hard to describe. but it sucks, and it always built up at night.and shxpencil knows i can vouch for the generic prilosec that just came out. 16 dollars for a 28 day supply. 22 dollars for a 42 day supply. prilosec is like $$$$$$$$ thatonly thing, as you know, is you can't use it every day and thats why it comes in treatment courses
5/16/2008 1:01:18 PM
welcome to my life.....this is me like every damn day
5/16/2008 1:02:32 PM
^^wat? i've been taking it once a day, every day, for years
5/16/2008 1:03:53 PM
after thousands of tums i found pepcid complete. it worked ok at first then it was like 3 a day, 12 dollars for 25 pills. then i tried the most expensive shit i could find and it worked. then a generic hit like a few months later, thank god[Edited on May 16, 2008 at 1:04 PM. Reason : ^looks like a doctor knows that, too. i'm talkin prilosec OTC. read the box 50 times!]
5/16/2008 1:04:09 PM
yeah, I pop if I even think I'll have heartburn
5/16/2008 1:05:30 PM
ahh nvmd
5/16/2008 1:06:08 PM

It's not unusual for pregnant women to have problems with heartburn, but it seems like I had exaggerated difficulties with it while pregnant because of how extremely short waisted I am. Not so much room in there for a baby and everything else.I had heartburn/reflux so badly that I threw up multiple times a day every single day until I had the damned baby -- not morning sickness puking -- there is a difference. I tried everything to get relief: changing my diet, raising my headboard, prescription meds. The meds helped a little, but the only thing that really worked was having that baby. I now have major sympathy for people who have problems with it when they aren't pregnant.Jackleg, if I remember correctly, prescription strength is just double the OTC dose. I have heartburn every day, and if I don't keep taking zantac and drink a lot of water I will have more issues (like throwing up).My brother has been hospitalized for this problem before. I've had this problem complicate with a stomach bug and go on for a long time and leave me bed ridden for a week. It's not a fun situation. We (me and my brothers) have inherited acid reflux problems, and we each have our own treatments. I have a regulated diet which doesn't include super spicy food or stuff that'll set me off (it just sets itself off, I can't really control it). I also exercise fairly regularly (though I haven't been lately, I WAS for a while, I need to start that back up, haha). I'm still taking 2-4 75mg zantac pills a day to control this, and some days I can't do anything to stop it from burning. It just sucks. Keep a long-term acid reducer like zantac or prilosec (pick one that works for you) around, and keep tums around as an emergency "fix this shit now until the pill kicks in" backup. If money is an issue, and you know somebody with a subscription to BJ's (the store, lol), you can get 240 zantac 75mg pills for $9.99 (generic). It's a deal and it's allowed me to deal with my heartburn without breaking the bank.See a doctor if this comes back really frequently, though if they're like mine they'll just tell you to keep taking whatever meds you were taking that work for you (and to come back if/when they stop working for you).

If you eat right you won't have heartburn. And spicy food isn't the cause of heartburn.
5/16/2008 4:59:40 PM
i have it regardless of diet - however, not smoking cigarettes helps me a lot

I have a good bit of heartburn... especially on the river, the combo of greasy food, nerves, and lots of gear that squeezes my abdomen does me in frequently. Beware of taking loads of basic anti-acids like tums. I don't know how much it would take but metabolic alkalosis would have to come in to play at some point.
