Let's hear the excuses from you libs. You rip into people like Huckabee for even mentioning the word "God". But like anything with Obama, i'm sure there is a valid excuse that makes this different:http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/375071.aspx

WOW OMG THIS MUSLIM SLASH CHRISTIAN ELITIST SLASH TERRORIST IS AT IT AGAIN!

5/14/2008 4:01:33 PM
Huckabee wasn't ripped for "mentioning the word God". He was ripped because he is a fundamentalist and creationist
5/14/2008 4:02:44 PM
i'm pretty sure huckabee was ripped for giving subliminal religious messages by simply being filmed in front of a crossseparation of church and state, etc, was the main gripe...but it was based on the cross in the background[Edited on May 14, 2008 at 4:05 PM. Reason : .]
5/14/2008 4:03:45 PM
they swear in on a biblei don't think the cross would be a big dealbeing a creationist is sorta a big deal nowadays. People need to smarten up
5/14/2008 4:06:44 PM
to plenty of people, swearing on the bible is actually a big dealcant say the pledge of allegiance in school because it says "one nation under god"in the same train of thought, some people dont want to be sworn in on a christian holy book]
5/14/2008 4:07:33 PM
Saying your' a christian is fair game, giving details about your faith is also fair.Saying you'll change the constitution (or any law) to be in line with Christianity is going way too far.
5/14/2008 4:08:12 PM
if Obama ever says this, i'll be scared
5/14/2008 4:09:35 PM
did Huckabee say that in the campagin ad from which I posted a screenshot?]
5/14/2008 4:12:27 PM
No, Huckabee said that in public.
5/14/2008 4:19:26 PM
speaking of the lords work. lolhttp://marcusharris.net/2008/03/11/im-not-trashing-barack-obama-he-was-born-trash/[Edited on May 14, 2008 at 4:20 PM. Reason : .]
5/14/2008 4:20:34 PM
How is that funny?
5/14/2008 4:22:21 PM
^^^well huckabee got criticized a lot for that particular ad, specifically the shot of the cross in the backgroundso regardless of what he said in other places, the huge criticism of that ad was the cross
5/14/2008 4:32:40 PM
Why is CBN the only place reporting this?
5/14/2008 4:33:04 PM
As a christian, I don't mind what Obama said at all. I just don't like the double standard. If a republican had said this same thing, your reaction would be COMPLETELY different.
5/14/2008 4:46:15 PM
I don't see it as a double standard really. You can't really compare what Obama has said to what Huckabee, or even Bush has said.If he would say something more explicit like, "I'll use the bible to guide my decisions as president" I'd be pretty scared and would probably even look towards another candidate.
5/14/2008 4:53:20 PM
oh wow, so obama is a clinger now huh??
5/14/2008 5:21:57 PM
5/14/2008 5:25:14 PM
Before he ever announced his candidacy for president, Obama criticized the Democratic party for being eager to appear non-religious. I forget exactly what he said but the point was that downplaying their religious leanings made "Christian" synonymous with "Republican".
5/14/2008 5:33:37 PM
5/14/2008 5:53:53 PM
well he did go to catholic school.....

... I didn't see this one coming. Barack Obama accepted Jesus as his saviour! No way! He's one of those christian folk! [Edited on May 14, 2008 at 10:05 PM. Reason : back of poster]

uh oh, there goes his atheist vote. oh shit. wait.

5/14/2008 10:51:48 PM
5/14/2008 11:05:41 PM
are people treating his christianity like it's some sort of new thing? like he has just trotted it out?he has seemed the most christian of the viable democratic candidates (and probably of all candidates with the exception of huckabee). this is not new.
5/14/2008 11:47:47 PM
"I won't be fulfilling God's will unless I go out and do the Lord's work."The Lord wants him to raise the capital gains tax?
5/14/2008 11:53:16 PM
As an atheist, I'm really offended by Obama's statement.
5/15/2008 12:07:14 AM
If this helps him get the racist working class white vote, why do people care? They bash him for coming off as elitist, and they bash him for trying to show people he's not actually elitist (and is likely the least elitist of all the candidates). And I personally know 1 person that seriously thinks he's a muslim, and statements like this might bring them a step closer to coming to terms with reality. All presidents have feigned religious, and they all pretty much have to, and probably some of them might have actually thought they were religious. It doesn't bother me really, until they start saying "I'm opposed to stem cell research because of religious reasons" or things like that.

Career politician panders to voters, changes views on whim. News at 11.
5/15/2008 10:12:21 AM
5/15/2008 10:31:20 AM
no double standard here...complete polar opposite of huckabee...nothing wrong with what obama is doing...man i love that guy regardless of how bad he fucks up
5/15/2008 10:35:40 AM
historically speaking though:governments that have leaders who raised taxes to their highest levels were ALWAYS loved more by the people during that time and NOTHING EVER happened that was bad while they were in power.lol
5/15/2008 10:56:12 AM
^^^And of course you have some proof that God actually said that, and not just some human being who wanted everyone kept poor through fear of eternal damnation?
5/15/2008 10:58:10 AM
I think he makes a good point. I'm an atheist, but my years of churchin' up do bring to mind a passage about faith without works being worthless and works without faith being worthless. I don't agree with the latter, but the former is definitely true. All the good intentions in the universe are great but if you don't do anything good then you've done nothing.
5/15/2008 11:04:09 AM
I think you completely misread his comment. I read it as him stating his belief that actions matter. It's nice to pray and claim to be a Christian but that it's important to fulfill the call to go out in the community and help others. Evangelicals understand this, as the Bible talks a lot more about helping the poor and your fellow man than bashing gays, evolution, and sex education. This actually does provide insight into what motivates him and the arc of his life story. It also counters the fallacious rumors out there that he is a Muslim. Someone's faith informing their motivation to public service does not mean they are running to create a theocracy.
5/15/2008 11:14:15 AM
That's certainly how I read it, and that kind of Christian is the best kind of Christian. I'm fine with people having their superstitions as long as they lead to good and not evil. I still won't be voting for him (or McCain) but his faith is not the reason.
5/15/2008 11:22:19 AM
Again, I don't have a problem with what he said, but I still think that if a Repub had said the same thing, he would have been criticized for being a "right wing christian neo-con".
5/15/2008 11:31:07 AM
there are usually plenty of actions to support people being "right wing christian neo-cons" without having to resort to a lame flier they sent out.
5/15/2008 11:33:00 AM
^^So you're upset that he's not being criticized for expressing his faith?[Edited on May 15, 2008 at 11:33 AM. Reason : adf]
5/15/2008 11:33:03 AM
No, I'm upset that he WOULD be criticized if he has an R by his name.
5/15/2008 11:58:22 AM
its highly doubtful. if it was delivered in that fashion, it would have been met with acclaim from the right and received respect from the left, as a move played out of the ordinary. Tyipcally republicans try things such as the huckabee thing above, and thats why they get labeled what they get labeled. as john said, theres usually much supporting evidence that brings those accusations, and things of this fashion provide the icing on the cake.
5/15/2008 12:05:15 PM
5/15/2008 12:07:04 PM
Pastor Manning is harsh with his words so they can draw attention but all the points he makes are valid in the bible so it depends on if you believe everything you read in the bible or not becuase according to the bible Obama was born in sin.
5/15/2008 12:15:04 PM
Isn't everyone born in sin according to the bible?
5/15/2008 12:18:16 PM
i will say one thing in defense and it's not really that worthwhile: he is doing his best to convince people he's not muslim.but, being a non-hypocritical left leaning independent, it pisses me off that he talks about god as wellbtw, treetwista wins with that pic of obama and huckabee[Edited on May 15, 2008 at 12:25 PM. 5/15/2008 12:24:25 PM
here's the real difference between Huckabee 'sand Obama's religiosity... Huckabee is a fucking nutcase.
