what's the best way to get it off. i got rusty calibers and inside the wheel well. my car sat for 3 or 4 months last year . . . i think that has to be the cause.

this happens when brake dust gets on a wheel. the metalic flakes start to rust if not cleaned off

its not the rotor. its the caliber and the part that connects the rim to the wheel. is that a rotor?

dude. its a round part between the rotor and the wheel. they touch. that and the brake calibers are rusty.

don't worry about any rust if it's not on the wheel. shit will come off after some driving time.
if it's a chrome wheel, try a brillo pad.

the wheels are alloy. the rust sticks to the bottom of the inside wheel well. but the main thing is a round piece that connects the rotor to the wheel. its like bronze rust.

First clean the rust off with 20 drit sandpaper and a file. Then spray the entire assembly with WD40 and coat all the shiny parts with molybdenum grease to prevent further corrosion. Also, your brake fulid is very corrosive and could be damaging to your rotors and calipers. make sure to unscrew the rubber line down there and plug it with a wine cork before screwing it back in so the brake fluid can not get into your calipers and rust them from the inside. Lastly, flip the brake pads around so the metal part faces the rotor, might as well do it while the wheel is off, this will make your pads wear out a lot less , because the way they are installed from the factory, the softer ceramic compound it rubbing against your rotor and can wear out quickly.

Also, spray some PAM on the pads makes them last longer. Keeps them from heating up and sticking to the rotors. Since you'll have the rims off, when was the last time you flushed your tires? Believe it or not air does go bad. Well, not bad but stale. Might want to check up on that.

wow dude, this is alot of info. i just got rust on the wheel . . . and didn't realize there was so much to it. when I drove a SUV this sh!t never happened. foolishly I leased a GT for 2 years. i turned it in last year. i never had problems like this. i think the problem with the Merc is the car sat for 5 months. never driven. it wasn't covered. my ex-gf had the Merc, but did't drive it much.
