I couldn't find a thread about this, but I'm certain at least some people on TWW are going to be trying it out. It's being released on May 20th, but if you pre-ordered you get to start a few days early. Looks fun, doubt it will dethrone WoW, but I'll be trying it out.

I've mentioned this game a few times in the WoW thread, and no one in there seems remotely interested.

this and warhammer will pull a chunk from wow... more so than LOTRO did i would think....which can be nothing but good, wow did the mmo market justice by bringing masses of new players to mmos but overall have become the disliked 800 pound gorilla as a result... (i am prejudiced)
5/13/2008 3:40:29 PM
Thats because you have terrible taste in everything. There's not an mmo in the world that compares to the detail present in wow.And no, neither Warhammer (copy wow more guys), or Conan will make a significant impact.More people play Starcraft then all of the new CC games combined, let that be your guide.
5/13/2008 3:42:52 PM
WAR will, I've been following it closely and have two friends in the betas. It is everything that WoW is polished to hell. It will be WoW 2.0. That's all I'm waiting for. ONLY thing it doesn't have is competitive PvP, but imagine if WoW BGs were actually fun to play. That's WAR.
5/13/2008 5:19:46 PM
WoW was a good MMO, it's starting to show it's age though. It changed the MMO market, but it will eventually be taken down. Age of Conan is not trying to take down WoW, it's more of a niche game. Anarchy Online turned out to be a great game, after the first year of growing pains. I think Funcom has learned a few good lessons. WAR will give WoW some competition, it has the money (EA), the name, and experience behind it.
5/13/2008 10:36:13 PM
obviously this takes place in the year 2000

I know right, Warhammer invented elves, orcs, and space marines! In any case, while they might be good games, I doubt Age of Conan or WAR have a shot at supplanting WoW. The only game other than WoW2 (or a Starcraft MMORPG) that could do it is the upcoming Bioware MMO. They are only the company with the pedigree and license (Star Wars) to give it a real shot. [Edited on May 14, 2008 at 9:10 AM. Reason : :]

I don't know of any space marine like the 40k space marine before then, Starcraft's marines are very similar. The Zerg is basically a straight copy of the Tyranids.Protoss technology and physiology is similar to the Tau empire.Warhammer is the first setting I know to have violent, yet comical, orcs.Much of the backstory for Warcraft was taken from 40k and WH backstory. But I didn't say it was necessarily bad, just that it was funny that a warcraft fan would say something like "copy wow more guys".
5/14/2008 10:17:46 AM
not to ruin the argument going on (omg lulz wow vs war vs aoc)but i'll be trying it out when it comes out.
5/14/2008 10:28:56 AM
Meh, I'm not arguing with him. It's 100% fact that Blizzard copies ideas. They made their career on taking good ideas, and then improving and expanding on them, to create some of the most wildly successful franchises in the world. Warhammer and Warcraft/Starcraft both pull from the same basic fantasy or sci-fi mythos. There is a reason why people associate many those ideas with Warcraft and Starcraft today, Blizzard simply did it better. However, it's pretty short sighted to say any those ideas originated from either one of them.I think SandSanta's point is that WoW already has the overwhelming majority of the MMO market share and millions of players with 2-3 years of time invested in the game. Why would any of them start fresh with a game that offers nothing new?
5/14/2008 11:25:57 AM
5/14/2008 11:33:16 AM
while i would love to offer input of wow compared to others, i would be biased based on quitting the game within a month of the xpac being out.
5/14/2008 11:56:33 AM
WAR isn't WoW polished. Its WoW copied poorly.Every beta tester I've talked to, and this is anecdotal evidence only, has said the game got boring after awhile because there really isn't a point to it. PvP'ers can't sustain a server for the simple fact that there's no real investment in building a community, which is the primary mode by which warcraft keeps all of us re-upping our accounts. How many times have you quit the game only to have your friend message you a couple months later: "hey man, we're all on server X, come roll with."The fact that PvP only is a stupid concept was highlighted by WAR going through a complete redesign in order to add more PVE elements (very similarly to WoW, actually) but in the process losing a lot of the features that made it stand out. I'm absolutely sure WAR will have a large following, but it won't dethrone Warcraft with most gamers choosing to play both.Conan sucks ass. No need to comment on that at all.
5/14/2008 1:12:31 PM
This isn't a WoW versus AoC thread. I play WoW, and will probably continue to play WoW. Please stop with the Blizzard fanboy bullshit. When you've done everything and seen everything in WoW, playing something else can be a lot of fun.
5/14/2008 2:55:29 PM
All MMO's suck after about a year. The fact that you have an addictive personality and stay up until 3 on Vent does not change this fact.Unless you want to argue that doing crack is great because it keeps people coming back...
5/14/2008 4:26:08 PM
WoW has nothing to offer me any longer, the fact that Ive logged 3 hours a week for the past two months is proof enough. The XPac won't offer new gamplay. A new class? Awesome seeing that they have kept class balance so tight through the years. And at WAR being boring in beta? Could be due to the fact that they open beta up for a week or less with specific settings and levels at this point. You only get to try out a few classes at one level and at one location. Just how they are doing it atm, and it still looks fun.[Edited on May 14, 2008 at 10:16 PM. Reason : .]

i just got a job with Funcom...this game better not suck..because i'm gonna have to live with it for a while
5/16/2008 1:55:11 PM
anyone playing already?
5/19/2008 9:47:14 AM
yeah, i started on saturday.Derketo ServerDabner - 16 GuardianTrying to determine if they have time zones associated with servers before I invest a lot more time into it. I believe the early access is capped at 20. Or so say my friends working over at funcom.
5/19/2008 10:06:14 AM
i played up to about lvl 18 last nightbarbarian on bluesteelmight not stay on that server thoughdepends
5/19/2008 5:04:08 PM
impressions?I've been wanting something a little more adult than WoW for a long time now
5/19/2008 6:32:34 PM
thats kinda depends on what you mean by 'adult'now i will say this the game is quite bloody and combat is a lot more intense.more realistic in ways too. if you swing your weapon from the side and there are two enemiesit will hit both of them not just the enemy being targeted
5/19/2008 7:02:50 PM
adult was the wrong choice, more complex and nuanced would have been better
5/19/2008 7:10:51 PM
i figured thats what you were going for...in that case..a little...combat is more complex...questing is pretty much the same as alwaysthere is open pvp on pvp serversif you want to level and have fun them join a pve serverotherwise have fun being ganked non-stop while trying to level
5/19/2008 7:16:15 PM
so no factions at all, it's all just FFA?
5/19/2008 7:21:46 PM
well if they had factions, someone in this thread would mention they stole it from WoW
5/19/2008 7:29:43 PM
I just want something with some goddamn mystery to it, everybody in WoW knew everything about every quest and did everything the same damn waythats the one thing I'll give Star Wars Galaxies credit for was that you could explore and conceivably find neat shit without a billion other people camping out therethat and not telling anybody how to become a jedi, before they copped out and let everybody be one[Edited on May 19, 2008 at 7:36 PM. 5/19/2008 7:32:58 PM
no factions...you see someone you don't likeyou can stick a sword up his ass^ the game is still new and from what i have played so far there is plenty to do.and all the game important quests from lvls 1-20are instanced so no one can fuck with you while you advance]
5/19/2008 7:33:11 PM
lol only posting on first place if this game takes off so i can seem important
5/19/2008 7:43:42 PM
It's better than any MMO released recently. If they can pull of everything they hope to, it should easily become the 2nd most popular MMO in the US and Europe, behind WoW.
5/19/2008 7:51:53 PM
i agree that it has the potential to become one of the most popular MMOs out right now

I may have a copy for sale. My computer couldn't handle it, and I don't know if I want to buy a new card and power supply.
