Got mine today! But was confused about why i only received $300. I filed as independent single and paid over $1500 in federal taxes in the year 2007 as well as $1100 in medicare/social security.

This definitely would be the first time the government has ever tried to screw someone out of their money

Recourse?

More money back?

It's not a tax return. It's free money for no reason. Take what you get.

I got mine on Friday.

Today I got a letter from the IRS dated May 12 saying that I should expect it on May 9.

Way to be on top of things.

not quite. Expect to get $300 less (or whatever your rebate check was) in your return next year.

A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

Actually i did some digging and discovered that since my income will increase once i start my new job in Aug; I will actually get the additional $300 with my 09 tax return. The gov't bases teh checks on my 07 income but its supposed to be an early rebate on your 08 income. Since i only had a tax liability of $150 after i filed my income taxes i thus only got the minimum; but since my 08 income will include a much higher tax liability i will be allowed to get my full $600 upon filing taxes next spring.

The website says you are supposed to give it up to 2 weeks past the day it says you should have it on the chart...I haven't gotten mine either and it's not showing up on the tracker.

nm - our estimated tax penalty was $330 higher than it should have been - the money was a refund - no rebate

^^ well, the IRS did say that if you owed any back taxes or anything like that, they would take it out of your stimulus check.

I got mine deposited back on the 9th, but never received a letter from the IRS saying when to expect it.

^^I read up on that this morning. Apparently you had to have over $600 in Tax Liability to get the full refund. That's NOT what you paid in taxes, or what you got back, or anything like that. It's completely separate. If you filed a 1040, it's likes 57 and 52 added together. Since that number was $0 for me, I get the minimum $300 back, even though I made more than $12k and less than $75k and paid a ton of taxes for last year.

This might clear some shit up.

I got this from Turbo Tax today:

Dear Valued Customer,

We want to provide you with the most up–to–date information about the tax rebate to which you may be entitled.

Recently, you may have received a letter from the IRS advising you when to expect your Economic Stimulus Payment (rebate). That IRS letter may have inadvertently left off some important information. Taxpayers who chose to have their tax preparation fees deducted from their federal tax refund will receive their tax rebate in the mail, not via direct deposit.

Our records show that you chose this payment option in TurboTax. As a result, the IRS has determined that you will receive your tax rebate in the mail. This may result in you receiving your rebate on a date later than expected.

This situation, while not unique to TurboTax, is understandably causing some concern and confusion. To help further clarify the situation, below is the most current IRS rebate payment processing schedule, as well as additional resources about the tax rebates.

I hope you find this information helpful. If you still have questions, the best source for the most up-to-date information is http://www.irs.gov (see the "Rebate Payment Questions" link).

Sincerely,

Bob Meighan

Vice President, TurboTax Customer Advocacy

i was wondering why i only got $310 back instead of $600

my 1040 lines 57 + 52 = $310
